Until the Rt. 30 offramp expanded into 3 lanes.

End rant.
That's my favorite when that happens. Everyone crawls coming out of the tunnel and that hill by the old Holiday Inn, you would think it was a 90 degree angle the way people barely accelerate up it.

Last night on 28, I had a person in front of me in the left lane with the entire right lane open, not moving. I blew out and around him/her in the right and kept checking my rearview mirror to see if they got the hint and moved over eventually...nope. It is indeed a serious thing in and around Pittsburgh that people favor the left lane for some unexplained reason. I'm convinced it is just in and around immediate Pittsburgh. Once you get past Cranberry on 79, the idea of travel right, pass left seems to work. Get past Freeport on 28, it is suddenly a different highway where people actually obey. All of 376 blows and no one obeys that rule, it's just a free-for-all lane fest. I've heard people say, "I'm going 10 over the limit, no one should want to go any faster." Be it valid or not, that thinking is rude. Move over. Get...out...of...my...way!

Can we rant not about the drivers, but about the pedestrians?

Like the impatient, all-too-important, super busy idiots who just can't wait 15 SECONDS for the pedestrian blinky light to come on. Cars are trying to TURN when they have the blinky turn arrow and you a'holes are walking across the street because, OMG, I'm so BUSSSSSYYY i need to get across this street like, right now. Five minutes ago.

AHHHHHHHHH.

OK, I feel better. Thanks.

/rant.

Some pedestrians suck just as much as drivers, because, many pedestrians turn into drivers!

On a sort of related note, I enjoy the people in my office building that INSIST upon walking up or down the escalators. God forbid you get on the escalator and just let it move you. That extra 2.5 seconds you get by aggressively walking up/down the escalator is the difference between longevity and an early death!

Regarding pedestrians, I see people cross the street all the time around that new Target in East Liberty. It is a matter of time someone on a cell phone crossing the street at the wrong time will get smacked. It happens a lot around that old Giant Eagle as well. There IS going to be road kill there at some point.

One of the worst things about this time of year is the driving seems to get worse. I have my guard up really high on my bicycle. Everyone seems to be in a hurry to get to the next stop sign or red light. I get a kick out of when I come back along side them, but I don't usually pass them. I don't like to be passed repeatedly by the same people. I know that annoys a lot of them and I really don't want a box on wheels coming after me on my little bicycle. I haven't worn a helmet in a long time, but think I am going to start. Saw that wrecked jeep that hit that cyclist in Lawrenceville and it made me a bit sick. Can't imagine what that would feel like being hit by some primitive squared off vehicle like that. I think if I was going to have to be hit by a car, I would rather be hit by an aerodynamic one, so at least I would slide around on the top of it and hopefully fly off the back or something. No sliding on that Jeep, just crunch! Of course all the SUVs around, I don't even want to get into that.

One of my biggest grips in Pittsburgh is people don't seem to be able to anticipate what is on the road ahead of them at all. They fly up through the zoo at 50 and hit their brakes when going into a bend because they are going too fast UP a hill. Using brakes up a hill really shows there isn't much of a brain behind the wheel. Goodness. I also get a kick out of all the people racing to get to a red light and hit the brakes hard at the last minute. Don't they know how to coast to the red light or stop sign to save fuel, brakes and wear and tear? Who teaches these people how to drive? I honestly think the percentage of drivers that do the above is about 85%. I have been taking a poll while on my bike and it really is funny to watch.

Apparently, you have to get somewhere so important that 15 seconds is holding you up. People who feel pedestrians and cyclists hold them up are some of the most pathetic people in the world.

Not when you're trying to make a left turn against oncoming traffic and just as you get a tiny window to turn, some putz walks right into the intersection against the walk signal.

Those "primitive squared off vehicle" driving types...I do blame world hunger, war, and disease all on them. I mean, people who fly around like imbeciles in sports cars MUST be better people, they have to be...

Life's tough, isn't it?

There's a lot to be said about leaving in plenty of time for your destination. Then those pesky pedestrians won't hold you up getting to your important destination.

My beef is the drivers on the 376 W on-ramp from Beechwood Boulevard. People will slam on their brakes at the bottom of the ramp, but you aren't merging! It becomes the third lane! I have seen people do it when no one is in front of them or anyone in the lane next to them. Very few highways around here have on-ramps like that, take advantage of it and maintain your speed!

I run in to this every morning at that ramp. The ramp is downhill and it leads to a big scary highway, hence the braking.
