You wanna ***** about Pittsburgh drivers, as if anything you ***** about isn't done anywhere else? Do it here. This can be your one-stop sounding board. Maybe if we're lucky, the moderator can merge all the other stupid driving topics into this one.

The worst things about Pgh drivers are inability to merge at highway speed (already much discussed here) and the Pittsburgh left which is really dangerous for bicyclists.

I'd like to let it be known that the "Do you drive a manual?" thread isn't about complaining at all, unless the thread took a serious turn for the worse since I last looked...

In fairness, it's hard to get up to highway speed with short on-ramps. I bet you won't encounter anybody who's afraid to merge on I-279, I-79 or the Pennsylvania Turnpike. That's because all the on-ramps are nice and long on those highways.

Less-than-highway speed is much preferable to complete stop.

Considering the number of vehicles on the road nationwide, not to mention bad drivers, it would be virtually impossible, and foolhardy, to suggest that Pittsburgh has a monopoly on ANY bad driving habits. We have our share of bad drivers for sure. However, I travel extensively and do not fly. That means that I am on the roads of other states and cities quite a bit. From my experience, as a whole, Pittsburgh drivers are above average in courtesy and following the rules. South Florida is the worst. People seem to be more self centered. They drive over 100 mph, weave in and out of traffic, don't use turn signals, cut you off etc. It is though they feel that their life is more important than yours so you had better get out of their way. Bithching about Pitttsburgh drivers posts are for those Pitttsburgh bashers who want Pittsburgh to come out on the bottom of every category, when the reality suggests otherwise. It is too easy to blame every negative experience on the place in which you live. There are bad drivers everywhere.

Excellent post, nuwaver.

I find Pittsburgh drivers to be some of the best in the country. There are unique topographic challenges in the region that require caution and skillful manuevering.

And I think the "Pittsburgh Left" is an ingenious solution... many of our tight urban intersections would be locked up if not for that courtesy. We don't have the room for turning lanes in a lot of places.

Some of the ramps on I-376 are short enough that you have to stop at the ends of them.
