Hey everyone, I'd figure I'd ask if anybody knows where the 20's nightlife is besides the bars downtown. I've live out towards the countryside near export. It's nice, but both Monroeville and the Mills Mall are... well, it feels baren to be honest, not a lot of places to meet people. Never really headed downtown before as until recently I thought it was dead as a door nail, and that I could get anything I wanted as far as goods go at Monroeville or down the street.

I've read here that south side is good, and form bus rides home Oakland seems busy, but I'm looking for new freinds and ideally a date or too, so I'm trying to stay away from bars and the like. Never found the idea of going out to drink appealing, and I know I don't fit into that lifestyle.

Other than that, I'm game for anything socail. Museum tours, walking around Phipps, maybe a night at D&B maybe? Just throw out any kind of ideas at me, I'm sick of being the geeky sterotype of staying at home all the time only because I have no clue where the action is being so far removed from the city.

P.S. How is East Liberty? The express bus passes by it all the time, and it seems like an upscale place to me.

Southside, Lawrenceville, Bloomfield, Shadyside. If you aren't into bars you can skip Southside. I like Shadyside a lot. It is nice to walk around, eat, and shop. Lots of people in their 20s.

You could check out Venture Outdoors if you are trying to meet some new people. They have all kinds of hikes, paddling, biking events you can sign up for. I have a membership and always forget to use it but seriously check them out. They have so many things to offer and you don't need to be at an advanced skill level for a lot of it.

If you want to avoid bars, you basically have to go based off of groups that meet up for common interests. Join an Ultimate Frisbee team or book club or something like that (but something you actually would like). If you want something less scheduled, I would try the downtown gallery crawls or the penn avenue arts corridor crawls.

If you can make it during the day, maybe try some of the coffee shops that aren't WiFi oriented, like Voluto and Tazza D'oro, but depending on the crowd, be prepared for the possibility of just spending some time reading or drawing alone.

I just moved here 5 months ago and am going through the same thing. I mean...I'm a bar guy and I live right in Southside so I have that covered. But outside of that its hard - all the social groups do is bar crawls, etc.

I started volunteering a few weeks ago...thats been going well. I'm not a fan of the Shadyside crowd. I did the museums, parks, etc. PNC Park is going to become my stomping grounds soon I feel...

I'm in South Side too. Only I'm born and raised southsider... and can't wait to leave. LOL

If you're looking for the non-bar crowd, try the local coffeeshops, concert venues, or like DT said above- the museums, parks...

Even if the Pirates suck, PNC Park is beautiful. I can't wait to start going to games just to soak in the atmosphere!

find a local meet-up group that meets your interests - as in meet-up.com or is it just meetup.com... some are free, most are cheap, might be a good way to meet people.

I also thought about taking a college class or two, something either personal interest or career related to get back into the youthful crowd. There seem to be a lot of 20-somethings that do that at one of the many schools around here.

As a 20 something I can say that my age group loves to drink and loves activities associated with drinking. But on the flip side there are plenty of 20 something hipsters that go to hipster venues (like brillobox, mr. roboto project, bloomfield bridge tavern etc.) for music related nightlife. Not sure what your music preferences are, but if you broaden your horizons you might be able to meet some quirky folks who aren't the typical "drink your face off" crowd.

There's also things like art crawls and banjo night. Basically what I'm saying is that you have two choices: associate yourself with the bar lifestyle or open yourself up to the hipster lifestyle.
