Pleasant Hills is cheap, right next to West Mifflin, and has a ton of rentals available. It is also in a good school district, West Jefferson Hills SD. If that's not for you, South Park would be the only other decent option if you have to be close to West Mifflin.

Can I ask why are you moving to West Mifflin and why Pittsburgh?

I'll be so excited to move from here. I did some grocery shopping in W. Mifflin not too long ago and it was a rough experience. Monroeville is ok. They have a beautiful park there. We went there last week with our 4 kids. It's open and VERY clean.

My brother in law lived in Wexford and it's not so bad in that area. The schools are much better there too. It's much cleaner and more wide open etc, a nice family environment too.

Finding good places to live here is really hard.

you can find reviews on schools at greatschools.com

West Mifflin is not known as being a good area, either in terms of safety or education.

It's not my cup of tea, but if I had to live down there, I'd look at the nearby city neighborhoods, Lincoln Place and New Homestead. Both have a pretty good local elementary school, but more importantly they end up feeding to the best non-magnet high school in the city, Alderdice.

I would not suggest living in West Mifflin proper. Most of the neighborhoods in West Mifflin are actually nice to decent. The problem is, the eastern third of the boro (near the river) is home to lower income residents and riff raf which has been dragging West Mifflin's repuation down and the schools have gone downhill.

Areas near West Mifflin to check out would be:
Pleasant Hills
Jefferson Boro
Baldwin
Whitehall
Bethel Park
South Park

In that order too
