That's incorrect, unless there's something that the news and neighbors haven't mentioned.

A murder that took place in Morningside last week was linked to the April 21st murder on N Euclid this weekend.

You're right, it was an arrest of a guy who lives in the neighborhood......a little more comforting i guess? Anyway, I'm glad it was not another murder. However, he's charged with two murders, the Morningside murder and the murder on North Euclid on April 21.

Regarding the Odeon project - I spoke with the developers today and it is still going to be movie theater with an eatery as well as apartments. That's big for the area.

That's great! When all these projects come together there will suddenly be a very nice neighborhood around the church square.

As a lifelong East End resident who grew up in Shadyside and East Liberty I would be thrilled to see the Odeon project come to fruition. It's been decades since I watched a movie on Penn Avenue. However, as a student of economic and social trends I believe it is highly unlikely that will ever happen.

They've been talking about developing the existing YMCA building into apartments/condos/hotel? for years, and yet it continues to remain abandoned. There is not enough demand for these projects to get them into construction, and also not enough financing to start them without proven demand.

They also talked about the Highland Building for years, over many different developers.

And this last time they got financing, and they have begun work.

Sometimes things change. And it isn't surprising why these things are changing in the East End--if you track various demand measures (vacancy rates, rents, and so on), there is a ton of unmet demand for upscale housing in the East End.

One thing is for sure - restoring and reusing a great old high rise like the Highland Building is a much better use of capital and creativity than building a new one from scratch. Not one penny should be spent building the new Odeon until the existing YMCA is fully renovated.

The YMCA is being turned into an Ace Hotel, they are working out the deal right now. It's going to happen, according my my sources who are close to the project.
