Default Turtle Creek, going down hill?

Looking at a house in turtle creek, noticed if we turn left it looks like a nice area, if we turn right, not so much. Is turtle creek a ghetto or in the process of turning into one, haven't been able to get a solid read on it. We've drove though parked, gone into stores and still not sure, no one has bothered us, but remember last time we stopped at a store was this kid walking around with a baseball bat, looked scared, idk....anyone live in turtle creek, have any insight...looked up crime statistics, and looks safe, but same statistics are way off on the ethic ratios from what I've seen as well....any input?

It's safe, but its a poor area and it floods. I don't anticipate that it will ever be "ghetto" in the sense of dangerous urban neighborhoods. It's just a safe, low-income, no pretense kind of place. I personally love Turtle Creek. If you like that area, also look into Wall Boro, Wilmerding, East Pittsburgh, Chalfant, and Forest Hills. I used to live in Chalfant and it was very quiet and convenient.

My roommate grew up in the area, and his opinion of the area is that it is on a serious decline. He said when he was young it was an older industrial aged town, but now he said its turning into crap. I wouldn't say its dangerous, but its definitely on the decline.

Chalfant/Turtle Creek even Forest Hills/Churchill/Braddock Hils are declining to a small degree. These places are very suburban some streets even have a rural vibe... They'll never even be up to East Pittsburgh's level of grit; let alone Braddock or Rankin's state of no hope via lack of local economic stimulus, blight/urban decay and gang activity. Turtle Creek is safe & livable, though it seems as if it's not as nice as it once was.

Turtle Creek is right next to Braddock. Housing there is rather cheap compared to other neighborhoods surrounding Braddock. Some time ago, those who wanted to escape Braddock but could not afford much, moved to Turtle Creek, bringing riff raff with them. That said, Turtle Creek is not yet as bad as Braddock, and probably won't be for a while. The only good thing going for it though is that it borders Monroeville, still a nice suburb.

If riff raff feel bothers you now when you are just looking, it will bother you even more when you move in. So I would recommend to keep looking. I would certainly recommend against buying there as it will be a very hard sell when the time comes. If you absolutely must move in there, stay as close as possible to Monroeville.

Spend a morning at the Magistrate's office to get a read on they type crime that happens there. Best way to figure out what goes on in a neighborhood.
