Punxsutawney may or may not be a little disappointing, but that will be a great drive overall.

Downtown Pittsburgh is going to be crazy that night. I just realized you guys will be in town during Pride fest and the Three Rivers Arts Festival.. Should make for a cool atmosphere.

I've only driven through Punxy once but they do have a restaurant called Phil's (after the ground hog). That might be fun no matter how the food is.

Good point, that would be fun.

My wife is leaning towards a stop at the Jimmy Stewart museum, so it looks like Indiana before Punxsutawney.

I like how this visit is shaping up. Now all I really need is good weather for the baseball game.

Please double check on the hours and if the Jimmy Steward museum is still open. They have had some funding issues in the last year. I went to school at IUP and love that area. Great main street to walk up and down.

I LOVE The strip district and really is fun to window shop and buy some really cheap t shirts. Please be warned after around 3 pm ALOT of the shops and vendors are closed.

THE Strip District and Pnc Park game would be my BEST advice to someone vistitng the area. Great mix of old and new Pittsburgh. Enjoy the game and vist.

Please report back, love hearing the comments good or bad

Will do. This will be our first time to Pittsburgh and with the advice here I feel good about our options. It'll only be one afternoon and night, so we're there for only a few hours, but all here have helped us to make the most of it.

I'll write after our visit.

Don't think it was mentioned but if it is to your taste, on the North Shore there are art museums The Mattress Factory and The Warhol. And the Carnegie Science Center and the National Aviary.

Naah, not really our thing. Thanks, though.

Our interests are history, good natural scenery, sports, local interests and local foods, and military - I'm a retired USMC veteran

Ha! Okay, while I am writing after our visit, it is quite a bit later.

It was a memorable visit and still memorable today. We made the most of our overnight stay thanks to some great advice here. We stayed downtown at (I'm pretty sure it was) the Hilton DoubleTree. It was a bright, sunny, comfortable day, and our pre-game walk to PNC Park was great. What a unique baseball experience!

As I write this, I have now been to 29 of the 30 MLB teams' stadiums, and our PNC Park experience is by far the best of all the other stadiums. Walking across the Roberto Clemente bridge before and after the game is truly unique and memorable. The great weather helped of course - this was back on Saturday 09 June 2012.

Our stadium experience, and the game, were great too. (I am already overusing the word great.) But that walk across the bridge to get to a game, over the river, with excellent views of the city, PNC Park, and Three Rivers Stadium - just fantastic.

Hi Aaron, thanks for the tip. We did this the next day, after sleeping in a little because we closed down the hotel bar after the game. We had lunch at the Primanti Brothers there. All of it was good.

It wasn't too crazy, IIRC. There was a little traffic getting to the hotel but all in all based on our routing it didn't have a major impact on us.

I vividly remember a pickup truck dressed in Steelers colors and decoration - in June! I grew up with the 1970s dynasty teams (as an NFC team fan), but the Steelers teams and their fans were and are awesome. The truck was a vivid reminder of those, especially of the first two Super Bowl teams, IX and X, when the team rose from the depths to glory, then to dynasty with XIII and XIV. The Vikings (poor 0-4 Vikings in SBs), Cowboys twice in great games, both of them, and finally the Rams in what for a time was a close game, with the Rams even leading at halftime IIRC. Epic teams. And great fans. Good football memories from my childhood. I am now 55, still a kid at heart.

Exactly spot on, a great mix of old and new. And the Jimmy Stewart museum was open that day, but we arrived too late to go in. We did get pictures of us with him though, it was nice of him to stop and stand still with us for those pictures. Nice man, I'm sure he's busy. And I think he's still there, standing, in the same pose.

Driving through and around Punxsutawney was interesting, and we had a decent dinner at Phil's. Fun.

Two things that we missed in Pittsburgh and I wished we had done was walk over to Point State Park on that sunny day to take it in, and to stand at the Three Rivers confluence. And go up to Grandview Park for, well, the grand view. We'll have to return!

Thank you again for helping to make our visit a memorable one, and my apologies for my delayed thank you.
