Yea, the only people I know who ever eat at Primantis are people visiting here who've seen it on TV and have to try it. I think that I've eaten there twice in twenty years.

I eat at Primanti Bros. every time I'm in Pittsburgh.

There was a poll taken a few years ago and most (by a slight margin) don't like Primanti's. Vincent's Pizza was likewise hit or miss. It was unique.

I hope Big Jim's, down the run, hasn't gone the way of so many iconic eateries. Being away from The Burgh for many years, I plan to visit in June. Where might I find the best pizza and best fish sandwich?

BTW, I was a frequent visitor to Vince's in my teens. We would always stop there before heading on to the Greater Pittsburgh Drive-In.

Della Salas in the Rosedale part of Penn Hills is my next choice to Vincent's. http://www.allmenus.com/pa/penn-hill...as-pizza/menu/

Nieds Hotel in Lawrenceville has a good fish sandwich but you can get a good fish sandwich almost anywhere. Nied's Hotel - Lawrenceville - Pittsburgh | Urbanspoon

Sandwiches are still huge and great. Even Guy Fieri couldn't mess it up. Only complaint is that we had a couple of flat draft Yuenglings last visit.

Believe it or not, not everyone liked it.

It was the only pizza that made me physically ill. It was a big sloppy greasy mess. I suspect it would have went out of business long ago, if it weren't for people that claimed to like it because it was hip or cool to like it.

Most successful in our region, but after Vincent got older and eventually retired, it was never the same. He was one of a kind. Not cheap ingredients like Primanti's, and no skimping on the quality items like that very good sausage.

If I remember correctly, wasn't Vince's logo similar to Chef Boyardee. And those old dusty plastic grapes. What was lost in ambiance was made up for in the uniqueness of the pies. If you ever met Vince, his pies were a true reflection of his personality. As one person wrote, it was hit or miss. I would say usually a hit.

IMO, Vincent's was the best of the old-timers trio (Vincent's, Beto's, Mineo's), all of which have become terrible by modern standards.

The Waterworks Mall in Fox Chapel is technically in Larimer across the river. For all intents and purposes for those born before you, Vincents Pizza began and was located in what locals consider Forest Hills.
