Great article, guy that doesn't like the city finds a 3rd rate professor to interview.

After more than 20 years in Pittsburgh, though, Dan is a bit sour on the whole American Dream.
“I am a full professor, but I’m driving an old car, living in a one-bedroom rental apartment, and my retirement funds are going into my gas tank,” he said. “When it comes to the American Dream, I think we’re dreaming.

What a loser. Change your lifestyle or ****.

I was able to get through the first couple paragraphs only. Such garbage.

I do agree that Pittsburgh can be something of an acquired taste. I didn't really like it here the first year or two. Now I'm probably here for life and happy about it...

If you're a tenured university professor and can't afford to live you're doing it wrong.

Okay...got thru the article...not sure the point really...it is a "rambler" with really no solid validity and point.... Yes, there are areas around our city that are not booming like they used to be in say the 70's and 80's due to the economy....but, in turn there are other areas that are being re-built and trying to make a comeback....

I believe though that us Pittsburgh folks are damn proud of our city and do take offense to those who don't agree with us!!!

I have been gone for nearly 10 years now and I dream everyday of the day we move back "home"....it may not be the "perfect" city but it is home and I hope someday I find myself back in the "Burgh"!!!!!!!!!!!

In the meantime, shhhh....lets keep it a secret....fine with me!
