Yes they have use the airport as they have for at least 60 years for official readings.

I woke up to find the dog spread out on the bathroom floor at 8:30am. Bad sign. He never hangs out in the bathroom.

I broke down and finally turned on the air conditioning for the first time this year.

So, can the temperature increase by four degrees within the next four hours? At 1:30PM, the temperature at Pittsburgh International Airport was 96 degrees, according to The Weather Channel. There could be a 100-degree June day for the first time in Pittsburgh meteorological history if the temperature keeps rising slowly and steadily over the next few hours. If the temperature reaches 99 degrees, then that'll be a new record high for the month of June.

UPDATE: As of 2:00PM EDT, it's 97 degrees at Pittsburgh International Airport, making June 29, 2012 the hottest day in Pittsburgh since July 15, 1995 regardless of whether or not the temperature increases for the remainder of the afternoon. (By the way, it's currently 103 degrees here in Athens, GA.)

Watch: even though the temperature reached 97 degrees at Pittsburgh International Airport at both 1:45PM and 2:45PM according to The Weather Channel, the National Weather Service will claim that the temperature got no higher than 95 because that's what they observed at 1:51PM and 2:51PM. 'Cuz Heaven knows that no weather takes place between the hourly observations. Just watch. The National Weather Service office in Pittsburgh is going to jip itself out of a record.

I never did understand that. They always seem to gravitate to the low end, making their "official" readings almost unbelievable.

I can attest it felt 97 out today. I was working out at a construction site today for Penndot near Washington. Our office has a thermometer, and I keep it out of the sun and it read 99 around 3:00 today.

Well, their 3:51PM update has the temperature at 96 degrees, but there are at least two instances of 97 today, just not at :51 after the hour.

Intellicast - Local and National Weather Forecast, Radar, Maps and Severe Report now says that it's 98 degrees in the city. I honestly don't give a crap what the reading is at the airport, nobody lives out there anyway.

The reading at the airport is the official reading, and Pittsburgh is not nearly the only city that has its official readings at its airport. In fact, most major cities do. For the sake of continuity, you just gotta pick one place and measure the temperatures there. Those temperatures are the ones that are archived, so at least a minimal crap should be given.

Are you out of your mind? My house is baking in the sun! Of course if a home is in the shade, it would help a lot. I planted a tree to help, but don't know if I will live to enjoy the shade.
