I was curious if anyone else on this forum was at the USC vs North Allegheny Football game on Thursday night ????
USC the defending WPIAL & State Quad A champs go down in a dominating effort by NA... The students section (USC) was absolutely distgusting in a couple of their chants to NA... Like when the cheerleaders for NA were on the field, holding the sign for the players to run through after halftime and they started chanting " FUTURE --STRIPPERS" And what topped it off for me in the 4th Quarter...Was when the students started chanting " Thats all right, thats ok--you"ll work for us oneday anyway" It's funny how they started all this non-sense, because they didn't get their way and were losing...(Right after half-time)...Very Classy USC |

Oh, yeah, my old alma mater. USC starts their young people off with a huge sense of entitlement. Not all of us, of course, but it's pretty disgusting. What's funny though is when I was a senior all the cheerleaders got booted off the team for getting drunk.

Well, Obvi (as the kids say), I wasn't at the game last night as I was home here in Colorado. However, I have seen/heard of this kind of stuff here, too.
In one instance, the cheerleaders for one team made a banner that said "Rape the Raptors" for their team to run through. It's unclear who the rapees were supposed to be, the opposing team or their cheerleaders, but whatever. Their coach was dumb enough to let them make that banner, and everyone got punished. I don't remember any more what the punishment was, but I think that is key, to not encourage this stuff. At my kids' school, after some similar bad sportsmanship at a basketball game, they all got remprimanded, with a warning that stronger steps would be taken if it happened again. Of course, not much can be done about ADULTS who act that way in public, other than to eject them from the game. PS: Several cheerleaders at my kids' school got kicked off the squad for snorting coke at school! Last edited by Katiana; 09-22-2007 at 03:12 PM.. Reason: addition, make more grammatical |

Wow! I'm shocked, TRO Z. The worse thing is they were playing North Allegheny. Imagine what they're like to less fortunate districts!
![]() If I continue to hear these types of things (I have relatives in USC), I'm going to consider marking USC off our list of townships to recommend to people who have children. Most districts have a policy that requires parents and students to be respectable. If USC has such a policy, it's time to start enforcing it. Hopefully, people will complain to the school district. |

Unfortunately, such antics can and do happen everywhere. We just don't always hear about them. It has been my experience that the kids will behave (better anyway) when the adults set a good example. For example, when my kids were in high school, one of the generic cheers was: "We're the mighty Eagles, we cant be beat; We're gonna knock them off their feet." The gymnastics coach would not let the team say that. She made them say "we're gonna have an awesome meet". It made them think.

It's very frustrating too because my husband and I have a 2 year old and he will thankfully NOT attend USC, but my 11 year old daughter is from my first marriage. Her dad still lives (and was born and raised) in USC. Our custody agreement cannot be amended regarding her education, and she will attend USC until graduation in 2014. I still have to drive her to Boyce every day to be with those awful kids! There's no doubt she's getting a good academic education (she's in the I.B. program, Odessey of the Mind, etc), but socially, many of these kids meet the criteria for legal bullying, and it breaks my heart she has to coexist with them. One of the MANY "incidents" we've dealt with....my daughter came home from 5th grade last year in tears. Apparently some of the kids were making fun of her Steelers jersey, calling it a "cheap imitation." I reminded my daughter it was from the Steelers store, and it had "Official Steelers merchandise" on one of the tags, (the darn thing was just under $100). I told her the jersey looked great on her and to ignore those kids. Ironically my dad had been on a business trip and bought my daughter a $500 replica Roethlisberger jersey. She proudly wore that thing to school the following week. And wouldn't you know it? The brats at school made fun of her because it was a little big on her, and they accused her of borrowing her dad's jersey. Ruthless, I tell you! |

I said it before and I will say it again now: this stuff is not unique to any one school district. It goes on lots of places, especially in "priviledged" districts that are considered "best schools". Wasn't it Mt. Lebanon High School kids that put out that "top ten" list a while back?
Out here this past weekend a high school student was burned because someone lit a shirt on fire and threw it into the stands at a football game that was a rivalry game between two "priviledged" schools. Bad things always happen at that particular game. School administrators need to get a little tougher on displays of bad sportsmanship. |

That's exactly why my husband and I NEVER considered raising our children in USC. Even though I graduated 25 years ago, that kinda stuff was going on then. The thing is, everybody there is from the same upper middle class neighborhood - no diversity whatsoever. So it's the kids that have money, the kids that have more money, and the kids that have more money than the others. While I realize that goes on everywhere, for some reason, the whole culture of USC breeds the "we're better because we have money" thing.
At least here in Char Valley, we have the kids with money (Nevillewood) and kids from Heidelberg, Bridgeville, and Scott. Plenty of them have single parent households and live in apartments. There's more than one color of student. In short, it really represents what the real world is like, not some isolated privileged little enclave. |
