DH just applied for a position at US Air. I'll probably start a new thread about that though...
Hm, US Air and Pittsburgh do not have a good relationship anymore. The fact that they removed their hub from here a decade or so ago still leaves a bitter taste in many local mouths and their sales here are way down as Pittsburghers tend to spurn them. They are continuously scaling back Pittsburgh operations and they were just in the news recently having less than 40% of the market share in Pittsburgh for the first time in history.

That being said, several other airlines are doing quite well now that US Air doesn't have a monopoly on our beautiful airport. Airports that are gaining the most momentum in Pittsburgh while US Air slips include Southwest, Northwest, AirTran, and JetBlue. Our prices have come way down, too, as more competition has been able to find footing. Before US Air left, our fares were extremely high compared to the national average because US Air had such a monopoly, now they are lower than the national average. Overall, despite the loss of about 10,000 jobs, once the dust all settles, I believe we will be better off for it.

It appears I am going to have to study everything I knew about the 'burgh. Pizza outlet's no longer, The Heinz Sign is gone, and US Air too, eh? I've missed a lot!

Where has the Heinz sign been relocated, or has it?

Good question, I don't believe it's been decided, yet. Did you know UPMC is in the midst of getting it's logo and sign atop of the US Steel Tower??

I've lived in Columbus most of my life. Born in Steubenville Ohio, my dad side of the family (Irish) is from Pittsburgh. I love going to Pittsburg just to look around and also going to Kennywood park. Pittsburg has character and Columbus is, well Columbus. If I still had family in Pittsburg I would go there and live. Good luck

LOL, yeah. UPMC is now the biggest occupant of the building and in agreement to this, they pretty much demanded to have their logo on all sides of the building. I'm not thrilled with the idea, but some logo's can really spruce up a place, and UPMC is a powerful logo that garners respect and prestige. So I guess I'm okay with it.

But it's the US STEEL building! Well, I guess it's official: Domestic steel production is dead. I can almost hear my Grandpa doing backflips in his coffin. :-(

LOL. Well that's certainly not entirely true, as a matter of fact, domestic steel is doing quite excellent right now. Pittsburgh and US Steel just aren't the center of the steel world any longer, although they still have a large rule. Pittsburgh is most definitely not dependent on the steel market like it once was, but regardless, steel is doing good right now - whether the companies are in Pittsburgh or not. :P

Where is steel being made in the US? There used to be a steel mill in Pueblo,
CO, but they're not in production any more, either. Pueblo reminds me a lot of the Pgh area, an old steel town.

I'm not sure, I am more familiar with Allegheny Technologies.
