Negative Rep on Pittsburgh forum
Someone seems to have begun merrily handing out negative rep points.
boylocke, yesterday (Sept 21) 1:32 PM: Someone just gave me negative reputation calling this post spam. Someone obviously doesn't know what the definition of spam is. :P If you're going to give me negative reputation, at least give a reason that makes sense!
pittnurse 2:56 PM: I quit giving negative rep some time ago b/c I really don't like the concept.
pittnurse 4:52 PM Yes, I agree. I have said before I really don't like the word "suck". As I said, I don't like giving negative rep. Which is why I am really hacked off that someone just now gave me a negative rep for a post on a forum which was closed early this morning because I complained to the admin. that someone was harassing me. Apparently, the mod agreed with me b/c he closed it down. Now someone (you know who you are) gave me a negative point for "bringing another person into it". If everyone who ever mentioned another person negatively got a negative rep point, the negative reps would be flying! I can assure you I have given out very few negative rep points ever, and none in months. If people are going to treat me this way, I will give back with same.
boylocke 5:09 PM: LOL! I hear ya, Pittnurse. I thought to myself, if someone gives me a negative rep for that little sentence that was pretty benign compared to some of the things people say on this forum, then woah, the point must be flying! I've given out one negative rep in the last six months or longer. And trust me, they deserved it.
This is not a good thing for harmony on this forum. If everyone starts giving out negative rep like a self-appointed moderator, this forum will break down. I have reported a few posts, but mostly I have sat on my hands while people post all sorts of negative, racist, homophobic stuff and worse, or, I post and everyone knows it was me. When a mod deletes a post, we know who did it. When someone anonymously gives negative rep, it's immature.

Not only that but it eliminates the discussion aspect. While some would call it arguing -- it does get to that level now and again, most often it's debate. One of the more or less memorable debates we've had is about the temp and snow and the Lake Effect from Erie and weather bands... and people were backing up what they said --
A far better discussion about Pittsburgh weather than Pittsburgh weather BLOWS, Man.... No Pittsburgh's got Great weather -- Dude you don't know whatcher talkin' bout -- No, dude, You Don't KNow... (I have been in California TOO long... do real people still use Dude?)
This isn't like buying on Ebay... the whole negative post thing says THIS IS NOT TO BE USED IF YOU DISAGREE WITH SOMEONE.

Wow, I know I'm new here but I find this forum rather mature (in a good way) and full of people that genuinely want to offer help and guidance when asked!

So do I, but it only takes one or two bad apples to spoil the whole bunch.

Hi Everyone,
Just got back from church where I cleaned up my act. In re: Ken's post about maturity, it's not mature to give a negative rep (on a thread that is closed, no less), make a sanctimonious comment, and not sign one's name.
This seems to be something new. We have not had this problem before. If it persists, I think we should contact the mods.

Sadly, there are a LOT of people on the internet that are like that. I Actually stopped playing MMORPG's online for similar reasons. There truly are people who's only purpose in life seems to be to make others miserable.
I know that I can get into "heated" discussions on some matters, but, I always try to respect other people's points of view even if I am adamently opposed to them. I am DEF not perfect at that either, lol, but I don't negatively rate somebody I disagree with. IMO, the whole rating system is just plain stupid anyway.
Pittnurse: With all the wonderful things you have added to so many various discussion threads, I certainly wouldn't worry about how you are viewed! Just remember to CONSIDER THE SOURCE! (even if it IS an anonomous one!)

Well, thank you PAPisces. It is irritating, though. I think I will go watch the Broncos.

I am SO confused. I have no idea how to even give someone a negative rep! All I see on the bottom of my little screen *thingy* is "rate this post positively."
Even having a negative rep thing is so - so "E-bayish."
There are so many discussions on here that are subjective. Everyone sees things differently. That's what keeps the world interesting. I think giving bad rep is nasty.
By the way, how do I even check to see if I have received any? Thanks!
