Personally, I take pride in the fact Pittsburgh has been used as a backdrop for several major movie productions.

The East End may be overflowing with we Portlandia-esque folks nowadays, but with housing capacity here quickly running out we'll soon be invading your neighborhood, too!

Highly doubtful, there's a difference between the judgmental snobs of the East who want to surround themselves with like minded people and young people who just need a cheap place to stay.

How is it to start a business in Pittsburgh now? My husband and I are considering a move to Pittsburgh. My husband has been involved in several businesses but we are now thinking of starting a small cafe, to get our feet in. How is the market in Pittsburgh? We are looking at smaller cities because it seems bigger cities are saturated.

sibyl,

I don't currently live in Pittsburgh but I was born and raised there. Although Pittsburgh is a large metropolitan city, most neighborhoods have a small town feel.

Just a thought, but have you ever considered a coffee kiosk or walk up window for those off to work in the morning? That is if the cafe idea has already been done. You may also look into something like Jamba Juice. I don't think they're back east. It's a California thing. Jamba Juice can be googled.

Even though lots of new places have opened in recent years, I feel like the local dining scene still hasn't kept up with the growing demand in the core area.

sibyl,

BTW, Jamba Juice takes away the guilt from a night of heavy drinking.

I've been to Jamba Juice in Chicago, don't know how far east they go.

If I'm not mistaken Pittsburgh does have one Jamba Juice. It's right around Duquesne University's campus in Uptown. I've become addicted as of late to Planet Smoothie in Shadyside.
