Default 2007 Haunted Houses

Where are the best Haunted Houses located this year, within 15 miles or so of the city? My partner REALLY wants to go to George Romero or Tom Savini's. (He's a HUGE fan of "Zombie" films and such.)

It doesn't look like Station Square is doing the Romero fright fest thing. Is that true? All recommendations would be helpful. Thank you guys!

Station Square always does Station Scare at the amphitheater which is a collection of several haunted houses with different themes plus a carnival. Some years it is tons of fun and some other years it is kind of lame.

The biggest event in Pittsburgh anymore seems to be Kennywood Phantom Fright Nights. I've been going every year since they launched the concept about four years ago and it keeps getting better and more extravagant. It is wicked fun (no pun intended) and because of its success the entire park is open including all the rides. The first year or so it was only some select things. The whole park is transformed into a Halloween extravaganza and there are about half a dozen different haunted houses in the park. Some are outdoors, some are indoors, most are great!! The only bad thing is that it has become so popular that the lines are getting really long and crazy. Try to pick a good weekend to go, it starts this coming week!!!!

There are several other local things, of course, and as Pittsburghers, we tend to hear about some really crazy ones in West Virginia including an old insane asylum and a place where you stay the entire night and do séances and stuff. I've never been . . .

Don't forget the Pegasus costume contest. :P

An old insane asylum? ooooooo! That sounds FUN! Any idea if the Station Scare is done by George Romero this year or not? All I see online about Station Square's is 2006's?

Lol, I will try and make it there...only prob is we don't arrive till sun 10/29. We don't really do the bar scene. However, Dallas has a HUGE Halloween block party every year...it IS the Gay High-holiday, after all! ;-)

Pittsburgh Haunted Houses 2007

Western Pennsylvania Haunted Houses & Haunted Tours

Western Pennsylvania Haunted Houses & Tours

Pittsburgh and the surrounding counties of southwestern and western Pennsylvania know how to celebrate Halloween in style. Literally hundreds of Halloween haunted houses, haunted trails, and haunted tours are available to area residents, from the popular family-friendly Halloween Happenings at Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh, to the chilling ghosts and goblins of George Romero Fright Nights at Station Square. The list includes Pittsburgh haunted houses as well as haunted houses in neighboring southwestern and western Pennsylvania counties. Pittsburgh haunted houses are listed in alphabetical order, not by how spooky they are

Haunted Houses - Pittsburgh Region

Castle Blood
This award-winning haunt located in Bealsville, south of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (Washington County), includes thrills, chills, awesome special effects, and a very interactive experience.

Demon House
The gorgeous old 17-room McCue Mansion in Monongahela, PA, is completely revamped and transformed as a Halloween haunt. This is not your typical haunted house full of gimmicks, however. Owner Billy McCue says there won't be a "guy with a chainsaw running after you." Instead he calls Demon House a "haunted experience."

Festival of Fear
Are you daring enough to visit "Nightmare Manor" and experience the "Curse of the Mine?" Test your courage this fall at the Festival of Fear at Family Bowlaway in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Freddy's Haunts
Half-mile, all-enclosed spooky walking trail is located deep in the woods of Independence Township, Aliquippa, Beaver County. Over 40 actors bring your fears to life.

Fright Nights at Station Square
The successor to the popular annual Fright Fest, Fright Nights at the Chevrolet Amphitheater at "Station Scare" include several scary walk-through attractions, including a Night of the Living Dead recreation by George Romero. Plus, thrill rides, games, the Executioners Chair and more. Presented by McDonalds.

Gateway Clipper Fleet - Halloween Cruises
The spooky U.S.S. Nightmare is no longer in Pittsburgh, but Gateway Clipper celebrates Halloween with a 3WS BOO Cruise, a Halloween Dance Cruise, and fun Halloween Monster Party Cruises for the kids.

Hallowboo at Idlewild
It's the Idlewild you know and love, with a fun, family-friendly Halloween twist. Idlewild is open for weekends in October with trick or treating, costumed characters, specially themed rides and attractions, fun Halloween games, and a walk-thru maze.

Halloween Happenings at Phipps
Visit Phipps Conservatory in Oakland for a different Halloween experience this year. Come in costume on October 28th for a festive evening of Halloween activities, surprises and trick-or-treat, plus a visit to the Fall Flower Show.

Haunted Hills Estate
Scare yourself silly on this interactive, one hour journey through the Haunted Hills Estate Trail in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. You must be in good enough shape to walk or be dragged 1 mile. Younger children (ages 7 and up) are welcome as long as they can walk the trail or be carried by their parent.

Haunted History Hayride & Candlelight Walk
Take a hayride or candlelit walk through the perils of the American frontier at Bushy Run Battlefield in Jeannette, PA (Westmoreland County). Reservations required and these book up early!

Hotel Beacon Haunted House & 10 Acre Corn Maze
Head out to Renfrew in Butler County for this popular haunted attraction and 10 acre corn maze. Fridays and Saturdays in October, plus Sunday "scare free" matinees with a scavenger hunt, pony rides and a petting zoo. "The Darker the Night, the Scarier the Fright" is their motto.

Hundred Acres Manor Haunted House
This large haunted house attraction in South Park, located at the former home of Phantoms in the Park, benefits the Homeless Children's Education Fund and Animal Friends. Great fun for a great cause!

I've gone on the Cheeseman's Fright Farm Haunted Hayride
"Face your greatest fears at this haunted hayride, haunted trail and haunted house at Cheeseman's Farm in Portersville, Butler County (20 minutes north of Cranberry). Not recommended for small children or wimpy adults."

It's pretty good!

Also Allens Fright Farm south of Perryopolis on rte 51 (billed as America's oldest haunted hayride), and Rich's Haunted Hayride (rte 119 south of Smithfield PA).

Then, there's 'Northern Nitemare's' in Zelienople, where you get a haunted house bus tour and free horror movies at "Chiller Theater' in downtown Zelienople.

blessings, Shen

Although I have not heard of any formal announcement, I would assume this event is no longer happening as the Chevrolet Amphitheater is no more (or at least relocated to Homestead).

Really?? There is no amphitheater in station square any longer? What took it's place?

I believe it is just more parking now. They couldn't keep the amphitheater there with the uncertainty as to where the casino would be placed (if the Station Square bid won, the amphitheater would be s.o.l.) so they preemptively moved it to Sandcastle. Now there is no casino and no amphitheater -- just more parking.

On the bright side, they are putting an open-air amphitheater on the North Shore as part of a retail complex. I've also heard plans of an amphitheater in Southside Works.

Developer has big plans for North Shore complex
