Goodness, I totally forgot the only real ice cream in the US and probably the world. Häagen-Dazs! If I was in charge of the government, I would only allow them to claim the phrase, ice cream, because guess what? They actually use cream and they don't put a bunch of gum in their ice cream!!! Wish they were here, but Pittsburgh probably isn't a foodie place enough for something like that. Also LePeep! That would be nice for breakfast.

Pittsburgh is plenty "foodie enough" to support Oh Yeah! Betsy's just opened in Mt. Lebanon. I've got a pint of their chocolate/hot pepper in the freezer. Good stuff. Btw, TJ's ice cream is all cream/egg based, no gums. Although the texture is weird - they could probably benefit from some carageenan, lol.

Had a LePeep where I grew up for a few years. It was good, but doing only breakfast was a tough business model.

I'm looking forward to trying Betsy's. Description sorta reminds me of Jeni's in Columbus.

No TJ's has gum, I checked. Penn State ice cream that people go crazy over has gum as well. There is only one real ice cream that I know of other than when I make it at home. Kind of odd, but true.

Just read the reviews. I don't think I will bother. Seems they use artificial ingredients and I just don't like that. Why do they have to do that at every ice cream store? Can't they just have one flavor at least like vanilla that is just CREAM, SUGAR, EGG YOLKS, VANILLA! Why do they have to put colors and crap in everything? Oh well, I would have considered a drive down there, but not going to bother. Pick up some Häagen-Dazs at the market. It is cheaper and better. I just don't get it.

Interesting. Because of your claim I searched a few site looking for ingredient lists. Which is why I suggested TJs as my initial searches suggested it was gum-free. But I see from the "What's In This Stuff?" site that it does indeed have carob and guar gums.

Scrolling through, I realized just how many great chains still have yet to make an appearance in Pittsburgh.

I will throw in Publix Supermarkets.

Giant Eagle is good. Shop n Save is pretty mediocre. But Publix is really a great market. They would help spur the local chains to shape up, hopefully.

Craving Raising Cane's chicken fingers right now. Really wish we had one. Also, wouldn't mind seeing Popeye's come back, and Zaxby's sounds good.

I remember a few people in this thread mentioned wanting a COSI in the area. I saw this article this morning ( Plans Move Forward for New Mattress Store, Shopping Center Renovation in Ross - Business - North Hills, PA Patch ) that mentions a "Panera-like drive thru restaurant" coming to the McKnight stretch.

And then this article from 2008 ( Cosi bistro chain searching for Pittsburgh locations - Pittsburgh Business Times ) that says that COSI was scouting locations in the city and in the North Hills for their restaurants.

Could it be our first COSI?
