Still a line out of DK's book.

Actually, at some point, you need to pay if winning is the agenda.

Any post I've made about the Bucs payroll has been that they should be in the middle of the league, not big market $$$...and with MLB Extra Innings, no need to move. You can watch big market baseball.

Pirates sign Neftali Feliz, DFA Tony Sanchez - Bucs Dugout

Surprised they made another move but not surprised it's another Searage project.

Well at least they realize their starters are likely to go 5 innings max. on their good starts.
I guess with they way starting pitching is so expensive its a calculated gamble at changing how you approach games. 4-5 innings out of starter, bullpen for an inning or 2, 7th inning closer, 8th inning closer, 9th inning closer.

Could be. Sounds like a good plan if the pen is strong. I keep expecting to hear Melancon is gone yet he's still here. Can't imagine him being here till the end of the season. Thought that of Walker and Alvarez also though, last season.

Sounds like Cole thinks he's above the way the Bucs run their payroll.

Pirates' Gerrit Cole grudgingly accepts 2016 contract | FOX Sports
That's what a Boras client will do. It is one thing to pay a guy if you think it will help your long term negotiating position, but right now, Cole's camp has zero leverage. He is going to be made rich in his arbitration years and even richer in free agency when he heads off to NY or LA. We aren't and never were going to resign Gerrit Cole. This is all business.

Now that's talking reality...and I don't blame Cole or Boras for that. I'm more surprised they thought they might get more $$$ this season.

I certainly expect him gone in or before 2019 and agree he was never going to be re-signed.

Despite the talks of extension, I believe it's smoke and mirrors, and expect Cutch to be here 2 more full seasons at most.
