Oh wow! I was actually there yesterday and it took me just a little over an hour from my house on the North Side, but I know all those old farm roads out in Unity.

Yep... it pays to know the back roads!

Good show, eh? We were there too.

There are two beaches at Moraine, one on the north shore and one on the south shore. I don't think there's any swimming at Ohiopyle. Lake water is so nice and cool, especially after a long, hot hike. Both have a lot of hiking trails.

I'm sadly sure that I am too late but Ohiopyle has white water rafting which is an experience worth trying at least once. Both are great in their own ways but Moraine is significantly easier to get to from the city

I'm guessing SCR is up for that.

Just kidding.

Thanks, everyone, for your helpful tips and feedback! I actually left not long after posting this poll and decided to go with my gut instinct and head to Ohiopyle. My partner and I had a wonderful time. I took numerous photos with my cell phone, waded into the river a bit, and enjoyed some awesome hiking where we saw salamanders, tadpoles, various birds, and even a snake (the poor creature was more afraid of us than we were of it, though). The Mountain Laurel was plentiful and in glorious bloom.

Sadly I didn't see the advice about ticks prior to leaving and dressed for today's warmth rather than for insect protection, but I've thoroughly checked myself (and advised my partner to do the same), and neither of us see any evidence of ticks. We actually didn't get to see Ligonier. My GPS took us from I-376 Eastbound onto the PA Turnpike Eastbound to the Donegal exit, where we followed the Laurel Highlands Scenic Byway past Fallingwater into Ohiopyle. I was actually quite surprised to see nearly as many DC area license plates around us as PA plates.

We used today as an exploratory trip, and we plan to return soon to enjoy a picnic lunch on one of the rocks along the river (I'm in dire need of some tanning time!)

Whaaaa? You mean you didn't check each other for ticks?

Haha, glad to hear you had a good time.

Great show. Today was good, too. Yesterday I watched from a friend's house off of 981 and today from off of Saint Xavier Road. Both locations were good, but Saint Xavier Road was a actually a little better, as it's pretty much at the top of the hill.

You have to check places you can't see. If you and your partner can't check each other everywhere, use mirrors to see hidden places.

Glad you enjoyed the day!
