Default HARMAR / BLAWNOX or other?

We are still moving to Pittsburgh but looks like it's gonna be in 6months not a year like originally planned. I started looking at apartment rentals. We are going to rent for a year and then buy. We want to get use to the area first, and decide what areas we really like. I have heard decent things about Fox chapel. We founfd a house in Harmar. We found the listing on craigslist. Anyone know about the area? We are moving from southern california. we will be taking a trip to Pittsburgh in December to check things out before we make the big move so we are trying to narrow down what areas are best to rent. We pay 1100 right now for rent and would like to spend no more than that in Pittsburgh. Our salaries should be about compareable to what we make now, give a or take a dollar. thanks-

Fox Chapel is nice, not so much the shopping, but the houses and everything else are good. It's fairly close to the eastern neighborhoods of the City of Pittsburgh. Harmar isn't bad; a little further out but it's close to the turnpike, though that might not necessarily help unless you're working in certain areas. Where in Pittsburgh will you be working? The only thing I'd warn you about is traffic on SR-28 during rush hour if you're going to be working downtown.
You can find an apartment for less than $1100 easily. Most 2 bedrooms go from $600-$1000, depending on the area and how nice the place is. You might even be able to rent a house in your price range, depending on where it is located.
