In other arguments, is Uptown even considered part of the hill district? I wouldn't say it is.

The main reason I posted, was incase an outsider was reading about this nice article and thought, oh maybe I will live there and believe me if you make a wrong turn around that area, you might be in big trouble. It isn't as bad as Homewood, where a new truck driver that was making a delivery to my place of business made a wrong turn into Homewood and someone threw a brick at the truck. Thankfully it just hit the side of the brand new truck and not the window where the driver might have gotten hurt and no doubt they would have ransacked the truck and maybe shot the driver. Please be careful in some of these fringe areas. There is a reason Pittsburgh ranks pretty high when it comes to crime. Best to let some veterans to show you around some of these areas, so you don't make that wrong turn.

Definitely. I think a 12-story residential building in Uptown would have no problem marketing its "penthouse" views and such.

I'm confused. What's considered Uptown/Bluff and what's considered the Hill District? I see people refer to the two as separate areas of town so why would crime statistics for the Hill District matter for Uptown?

On this map, the Hill District is Crawford-Roberts, Upper Hill, Middle Hill, Bedford Dwellings, and Terrace Village:

Uptown/Bluff is marked as Bluff.

Edit: Official site noting Uptown is not part of the Hill:

I've driven through Homewood, the Hill, Uptown, and Lincoln-Lemington hundreds, or maybe thousands of times. I've never had an issue. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but I think situations like that are extremely unlikely to happen.

My main concern is what will become of the surviving (and mostly abandoned) Victorian housing in Uptown. Some of those Victorians are among the most attractive historic homes in the city, or could be with some TLC. But I think investors like Sal Williams are sitting on them and waiting for them to be demolished by neglect, so they can capitalize on the land value. Very sad!

FWIW, the new driver was VERY shaken up. I am sure he had visions of that Rodney King mess in LA. I mean the huge smash in the side of his truck was all I needed to see. I really felt for him, so don't try and downplay it. KEEP OUT of Homewood if at all possible. By the way, that driver got a different route as he wanted to. He is driving to NYC and Philly where he is more comfortable. Goodness!!

I've worked in Lincoln-Lemington for over three years, so I am in that area almost every day / night. I've seen some crazy stuff, but nothing has happened to me yet.
