As we are Irish, we are always looking for a good local. Something with a decent snug is a good thing

Drive 15 minutes past Robinson and stop off at Janoski's farm market for fresh, fantastic local farm grown food and produce from their farm and other local farms. Some of the best cinnamon rolls around too.
Their restaurant also has a fantastic breakfast buffet.

dorothy, You could try McGinnis on Route88 (I think it's castle shannon, not mt lebanon). I love that store. all good stuff from europe.
also you might want to try the uncommon market in south hills.
Pub: The Pour house in Carnegie has excellent beer and regular irish crowd plus live music
Bike trail: Panhandle is like 15 min away.

Of course our boys are a little bored at the moment so this week I will bring them to Kennywood and to a Pirates game so they can have some fun.

We spent a little time in Ikea and cant believe how close everything is to us ; most places are within a 20 min drive. People are so so nice. I had to drop off 7 screens to be fixed (seller hid them on us), but anyhow, the store that will fix them didnt even want a deposit!! The amount of shopping that can be done in Robinson is great. Found a Trader Joe's which was good but still looking for whole foods. Shopped in the local grocery store and it was very clean.

So far so good. Nothing negative to say at all. Felt like that storm last night was right over our heads ; lightening was spectacular.
Dorothy,

I'm sure it was a daunting task to uproot your family and move to a new community. I congratulate you! I wish you well and hope you find your new home and community a wonderful and enriching lifelong experience.

Does anyone ever notice how often threads start discussing food , grocery stores, and great places to eat in Pittsburgh.

The foodies thread has been at the top of the lists for as long as I've been a C-D member.

Pittsburgher's truly love their food! I bet if someone is invited to a party the first question would be,"What are they going to have to eat?"

Personall, I think it's great!

Dorothy my only suggestion while living in Pittsburgh is to watch your waistline.

I went to the Market District in Settlers ridge yesterday and oh boy it was wonderful. It reminded my son of the markets at home. Loved it, loved the variety of food there and could even get Murphy's for my dh.

Then today we went to a tiny Korean place in Cecil called the Golden Pig. It was tiny ; only 10 seats, but the food was wonderful.

I'm happy you're having a good time being it's only your first week in. I'm looking to move to Pittsburgh from NY and I hope I have the same experience. What part are you living in if you don't mind me asking? My husband and I are looking into Beechview, Dormont and Greentree. We are looking for a nice and quiet neighborhood with very good schools and of course decent rent.

So Dorothy--now that it's been almost a month, how's it going? Do you feel settled in yet? Have you found a few favorite places? Met your neighbors? Etc.

BTW, if I haven't already said so, welcome to Pittsburgh.

Not a month yet. and have not met any neighbours (we are a house on its own and not in a development). BUT we are having a great time. Put in two applications and didnt hear anything but I will speed up the process in a few weeks. Our main focus has been getting the house in order and last week we had visitors for 4 days.

So far we have eaten at the Texas Roadhouse, Burgh Wings and Pizza, Golden Pig, and last night ordered pizzza to be delivered while watching the olympics.

We have been to a pirates game, Kennywood and just spent three days at Cedar Point.

The house is great and I am getting to like it more and more each day.

We love it so far. The people have been so so friendly and helpful. Everything is close to us and the thunderstorms have been awesome.

Thank you for the welcome.
