PPS just eliminated 220+ teachers. Sad to say, it is a tough time to look in the education field in many states.

280 employees (just over 8%), of which 190 were teachers. That's still a lot of teachers though.

With tight budgets, I don't entirely see why they would be entirely focused on hiring "experienced" teachers. They are far more expensive, and "experience" in teaching doesn't always mean better. These days, it can often means more cynical and teaching by rote because all enthusiasm has been beaten out of them by administrators, the government, and parents (for those that had enthusiasm to begin with, anyway).

Has anyone asked the question.. Why have ZERO administrative jobs been eliminated? Less schools, less staff, yet the 6 figure plus staff all have jobs and many of them just got raises & bonuses ( again). 700 administrators for a district that has less than 25K kids is beyond overboard. I hope they hire and rehire teachers. Btw, experience counts big time in challenging districts. It is not for rookies. I wouldn't last a day.
