Default Internet Service

I am currently with Comcast for TV and Internet, I am thinking about changing my TV service to Dish but they don't have internet. Comcast wants to charge me an arm and a leg for their Internet service alone. Is there any other companies that offer internet service at a cheaper rate?

Thanks

In my experience, it's very difficult to get standalone internet service for a decent price around here. I have FIOS in a double play (internet and TV) and my rates will be going up soon. I inquired about keeping just the internet, and I believe that said it was around $65 for the cheapest.

I know DirecTV has some good deals for TV, but not internet. They have us over a barrell I'll tell ya'. But I say death to Comcast anyway. Just my personal opinion. The service I've gotten with Verizon has been excellent. Maybe I'll call them and threaten to cancel. That always seems to get me a better deal.

I have comcast stand alone internet for $39 a month. You can shave $7 off your bill by buying your own modem; you can even get the same exact model that they'd rent to you (or a fancier one, of course). They try to talk you out of it by saying that it won't be fast enough for gaming or movie streaming, but it's completely fine for everything. It only makes a difference if I have a large download (like an entire video game), where it might take 30 minutes instead of 5, but it's fine for streaming.

Don't mean to hijack this thead....but I was ditching Comcast in favor of Dish network and only internet from comcast. However, we were in a hotel last weekend when it poured heavens, and the directv service that the hotel had was interrupted for close to an hour.

I'm probably gonna go comcast.

EDIT:
The irony is, inclement weather is when you want to chill out in your home the most, with a cup of tea and the remote.

Tell Comcast you want their economy internet. I was paying $25 then when I switched TV to Dish it went up to $45. Last month I switched back to Comcast and internet dropped to $30.

Dish loses signal when it storms severely but not long, usually 5 to 15 minutes. Snow is virtually a non-issue.

Dish has a Welcome Pack for $15. Over 50 stations and some are A&E, History, etc. I believe there is no contract and you would have their equipment as well as Comcast connection to barter between the two for TV.

IMPORTANT! Dish will promise you free HD for life but will install boxes etc. so you don't have it then try to charge a huge amount to convert you once you discover you got ripped.

Also if you're going to get Comcast Internet......Do yourself a favor and buy your own Modem it'll save you 10 bucks a month with their stupid Rental Fees.

Docis 3.0 modems are now be sold on Amazon, and this Motorola Surfboard seems to be the best with Comcast.

Amazon.com: Motorola SB6121 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem: Electronics

Do you think this is the best satellite internet? I've never needed it before, but I'm going on vacation that will require me to take a laptop with me to help plan our route and reserve rooms, etc., while we're on the go.

I think something worth mentioning in general is that you really don't need upper-tier speeds for browsing the internet. The slowest downstream offered by Comcast will meet all of your needs except for large downloads. Don't let them talk you into getting super-fast speeds.

Comcast has recently doubled the internet speed for its economy tiers. Most service-reps do not know it. If you want to know, request to talk to a "technical support" guy.
