Is it difficult? Physically taxing? I'd love to give it a try.

That's exactly what I used it for, to learn. It did get a little crowded when they were busy, but it was wonderful to be in that park and look at all the beautiful homes that surround it.

Difficult? No, very easy to figure out. Trickiest part is learning how to adjust the foot pegs. Taxing? If you paddle in a river with a strong current, yes. Or, if you want to race or paddle through riffles. You can really build up your muscles kayaking--if you want to. It can also be relaxing. I've been known to take the newspaper and a drink with an umbrella in it and just sit out in this one pretty-but-protected section of the Potomac reading the paper.

I have kayaked on the Ohio before but it can be a little creepy if you're a beginner..you have to watch out for other boats, including barges coming at you but luckily they're slow and you can see them a mile away. You're basically the smallest thing in a large body of water. Also the current can be a little strong so it definitely takes more work...which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Doing some kayaking on the rivers around Pittsburgh is on my bucket list...I'm shooting for September at this point.

Creek kayaking is more fun imo because most regular boats can't even go through them so you feel like you're on your own little expedition.
