I'm going to go ahead and say this; I haven't had a bad experience/bad food at ANY Pittsburgh Indian restaurant. Some may be a bit better than others but all I have been to met my expectations of fresh food and reasonable prices. Is the place off of I376E still there? Udipi? Love that place.

Speaking of Indian restaurants on Banksville rd. It seems that Mintt is good if my Indian coworker recommended it and someone else here seconded that opinion. Very close by is Namaste. To be honest with you I sort of didn;t like that place too much. The food was too spicy for me and the couple of times we went there for dinner lately the place was almost deserted.
Now there is another indian rest on Banksville in a hotel. It is called Billy's Indian Restaurant. I don;t know why is called Billy's, but I haven;t been in it since it changed hands. Not that I liked it before changing hands

As about the ones downtown there's two of them on the same street on the left anf the right of a Greek place
Between these two I like better India Palace. More variety and more dining space. The other one feels just cramped and they offer fewer dishes. The buffet price is the same 8.99 for both of them. I eat there once a week.

It's Billu's, not Billy's. I haven't been there (was at Namaste once, not bad, not great) but seems there's also a Billu's in Monroeville.

I'm at work, I didn't read through 4 pages, my apologies. So you could have given a friendly "yes".

the last time i went to the buffet at days inn it was pretty mediocre, but that was before it became billu's. namaste is pretty ok, nothing special. when i worked out that way i tried all the restaurants in the area but i always went back to tamarind.

"too spicy" sounds promising though, maybe i will have to try namaste again, haha!

and yeah, udipi is still there, the place is usually packed too! they get a lot of traffic from the sv temple which is right there.

Does anybody remember Sree's restaurant that was in Sharpsburg? Sree passed away last year from some sort of debilitating sickness. He used to run that restaurant with his wife, if you went in there to eat chances are Sree sent you home with a bag full of food.

i never went to the one in sharpsburg but i've been to the ones downtown and in squirrel hill - honestly it's never been my favorite but mr sree and his wife were really nice and you definitely couldn't beat the price to quantity ratio!

i loved when mr sree would talk smack on the buffet that was across the street at the time (indian oven, which i actually really liked) in squirrel hill!

i believe the downtown location is still there. the sharpsburg one closed after a big flood (hurricane ivan?) and i don't know if it ever reopened.

Right, the food was not in the same league as some of the others but Sree and his wife were so generous and kind.

Agreed about Srees being nice people and mediocre food (even for the area). Indian Oven was managed by the son from People's. He has a store - not restaurant - out near Dormont now.
