My son is moving to Pittsburgh and is looking for a young (21-30 y/o) professional apartment complex with amendities (swimming pool, fitness, social life). The south side or central Pittsburg would be preferred.
Any recommendations?

Depending on your price range - Carson Street Commons would be my recommendation (same exact scenario as you).

Cork Factory or Heinz Lofts are also recommendations that come up fairly often. They may be hard to get into though, I'm not sure.

Is that the same as the apartments at the South Side Works? Also, the apartments at the Waterfront. There is a loft building on the edge of Oakland and Shadyside. I forget the name of it. I was in it years ago and it was very nice.

Also, consider the stuff downtown.

I looked at online the Carson Street commons and while it looks nice I didn't see any amendities.
My wife and I met and lived in a large complex in the Chicago area where they had sand volleyball league, ski club, lakes, pools and a pub. It was a great transition from college to the real life. I was hoping there would be something similar in Pittsburgh? On the other hand in Chicago many young professionals desire the downtown area and maybe this is the best place to be in Pittsburgh?

Something as you described would be found in the suburbs not in the city here

Some others that live outside the city would be more helpful, I just know of them (there's one somewhere near mt nebo & another by sewickly I've been to as a visitor, but beyond that I don't remember any of the specifics that would be of much help other then to say they do exist

Depending on the timing, this new development in the Strip might be worth checking out:

It is going to have quite a few amenities:
