My mom is returning to the city at 6PM on the 25th. Anyone know of restaurants open - perhaps Squirrel Hill area would be more likely?

Don't know of any in that area since I don't spend any time there. I know some of the local TGI Fridays are open, but you'd have to see which ones if they interested you (I know, kind of a crappy chain restaurant). The chain says that most of their restaurants are open Christmas Day, and the Robinson one is definitely open. The Waterfront one would be closest to Squirrel Hill, obviously, and I'm not sure about them.

How does she feel about Chinese food? I think many of those will be open.

Hotel based restaurants are open at Christmas.

McDonald's has signs up reminding they'll be open at Christmas this year as well, they have locations in Homestead just across the bridge/

You know your life best, but unless you feel she has raised your poorly and you really want to drive home the point, don't take your mom to McDonald's on Christmas.

I have on occasion celebrated Jewish Christmas at New Dumpling House on Murray Avenue. They get quite a crowd.

McCormick & Schmicks is open at both locations (downtown and South Side Works). They are serving Christmas dinners and you have to reserve, so this may be more than what you're looking for.
