The late nite party people that go to the way tooooo many clubs have been a great subject for neighbors in that area. I wouldn't live on East Ohio street for free. It is way too close to big apartment buildings that are pretty much considered projects or tenements. One nice safe area that is about 20 minute drive( jump right on the highway from downtown) and it is about 4 exits away----- is a borough called West View. Nice - safe- and GREAT bus service. Shopping too. Also a couple of decent restaurants and houses as well as apartments. Good luck
There are no rowhouses in West View. West View is nice, but it's no place for a hip urban single.

Thank you all for the information. I will check these areas out to see for myself.. I also want to thank you for the PHOTOS...they are beautiful and I am sending you a private email regarding them.

Well I must say the Pelople here from Pittsburgh are VERY NICE. That is a very good sign. xxoo

I am in Carson City NV for work and lets just say nicely I HATE THE PEOPLE HERE!!!!!!!!!!

Nice place to visit Northern NV. But very backwards. The people have NO understanding of CUSTOMER SERVICE. The teenage population are mainly crank addicts You don't want to METH around with them they are very sick and sad looking. And just think these teens are our future and majority of them have NO TEETH...that was the first thing I noticed when I came to Carson City, NV. You think with all the money they make from Casinos and Legal Brothels they would be able to educate the public and clean up this problem.

If you ever come to N. Nevada visit Virgina City and Lake Tahoe. They are Awesome in in the summer no Humidity and the winter is fab for skiing.

The houses on Allegheney are in Manchester across from beech. Not the worst but most people would consider it the hood. East O is not good either, unless you want to see the cops arrest someone everynight.

To the Pittsburgh cheerleaders: I'm sorry to be a downer. This person would have nearly wrecked her life if she didn't ask somebody.

Default What school will you be attending?

From your description and knowing a little about NY neighorhoods I would say the South Side is hands down the place you want to be. The one drawback would be that it is a little more expensive than the other places mentioned here. I think the SS is the safest of those areas and it is probably the most diverse so the cost may be worth it. Keep in mind, prices here will be a pleasant surprise from NY. You may also want to pick an area based on your school. Sometimes Pittsburgh presents problems getting from A to B and then finding a parking space (if you plan on driving to class). The closer to the university the better. The South Side is a pretty good place if you are going to Pitt, CMU, Carlow, Duquesne or Point Park. Shadyside is another good option but again more expensive than the North Side, etc.

Default Have you considered Shadyside

Shadyside is close to Oakland and has nice restaurants, shops. It is pricey, but pretty hip.

Southside is THE hip area in Pittsburgh for young people. Period. Other areas are definitely neat and offer their own advantages, but if the OP is looking for the hippest part of the 'burgh, Southside is definitely it. If you are looking for a place on the Southside, the slopes offer the best deals.

I disagree. I think Shadyside is much more hip and trendy than the Southside. The Southside is young and "cool" - but, it's sort of rough, actually, a little grungy in places, and a lot of exciting! The Southside is very casual and low-budget in most areas.

Hip? Maybe a bit, but not nearly as much as Shadyside, imo.

True guylocke, SS probably is more young and cool than Hip. I think either place is a good bet but Shadyside is more sophisticated.

Hip might have different meanings to different people, but in my eyes, and dictionary.com, it mostly means places where the current trends and developments are, especially regarding fashion and style.

Shadyside definitely has SS beat imo. IF we are talking about HIP. We'll play the semantics game.

Definitely. The Southside after dark is awash with drunk college students and all that entails. There are still college kids in Shadyside, but it's a whole different animal.
