Hi everyone! I'm looking forward to exploring your lovely city, as I will be attending Carnegie Mellon University in the upcoming fall. I was wondering if anyone knows of any apartments/condos/houses which allows large dogs (i.e., a 70 lb German Shepherd/Husky mix). She's housetrained and a sweet girl. I'm not at all familiar with the area, nor am I going to have a car, so public commute/proximity to the campus is important to me.

I am looking to move in August and aiming for safe communities, Bloomfield, Point Breeze, Regent Square, Shadyside, Squirrel Hill. I've been suggested some apartments in Squirrel Hill and a place called Walnut Towers, but I'm looking to see what other opportunities I have from you folks. If you could help me get some ideas, I'd appreciate it! Thanks

Have you called Walnut Capital (the company that operates Walnut Towers) about other properties they have in Squirrel Hill? Here are two that would be ultra-convenient, and which accept dogs:

Are you going to be a freshman undergrad? If so, I believe CMU requires all freshmen to live in university housing.

Forbes Terrace - Walnut Capital

Walnut on Wightman - Walnut Capital

Wightman Street Apartments - Walnut Capital
Thanks. Wightman Street Apartments seems to be a good fit. Have you lived in a Walnut Capital property before?

No, I'm going to be a graduate student actually.

Hi captai-

My husband and I (both grad students) live in one of the Walnut buildings at Wightman/Hempstead.
We've lived here almost two years now and have no complaints. I'm happy to answer specific questions!

It's tough finding a rental unit of any type in western Pennsylvania that will allow you to have a pet goldfish let alone a large dog.
