Bingo, it should not be cold when playing baseball.

The MLB regular season should be reduced to 150 games. That way the season can start in mid-April and the World Series can finish before November.

It's going to remain winter-like through April and possibly May, so pushing it back a week would make no difference this year. It's going to be interesting to see what happens this season to more northern teams. Gonna snow in New England HARD through April. Winter's barely underway.

In 2009, the Penguins won the Stanley Cup nine days before the summer solstice.

For that matter, have you noticed how "March Madness" plays into April now, and the Super Bowl is now the first Sunday in February instead of the last Sunday in January like it used to be? And NCAA Football doesn't decide a champion until nearly the middle of January now.

For the NFL, either start the season Labor Day weekend like NCAA Football does, or lose the two-week layover between the Conference Championship round of the playoffs and the Super Bowl. For the NHL, start the season in late September after the autumnal equinox so the Stanley Cup Finals don't play past May. And where do I begin with NCAA Football? There are about 20 too many bowl games, and the championship game should be played no later than the first Friday in January. And the conference system just needs to be scrapped now.

With all that said, I wouldn't mind delaying the start of the NBA season until mid-November and have the NBA Finals play into July, because July is easily the worst month of the year for sports. For the NBA Finals, take Independence Day off, but also finish before the MLB "All-Star" festivities. Bingo. Then the lull between the NBA Finals and NFL training camps is only three weeks instead of five.

In which case July would still be the worst month for sports

But there'd be two sports to watch instead of one.

Wow, what a beautiful day for the Pirate Opener! Great times for all that are in attendance. Wish I could have gone.

It is. With the sun being out, it will feel warmer than it is.
