I'll second that. If it doesn't significantly harm the public good I can't see the point in opposing it.

If some guy wants to subject himself to having multiple wives (or woman having multiple husbands...why not?) its none of my business.

If I don't like gay marriage, I don't get a gay marriage. If I don't want to be a polygamist, then I don't marry multiple people. If I don't want my kids taught a bunch of inconsistent crap from a book that was essentially written a few hundred years ago, and edited heavily to reflect the views of that time I let them sleep in on Sunday's. Its a simple as that.

It seems to me that a certain segment of the population with a certain political slant who champion personal rights and a lack of intrusion (government or otherwise) into their lives should practice what they preach for a change.

Funny! Clearly you imagine how awful that would be too! I love my husband dearly, but one drives me crazy already!

Ever see the HBO series "Big Love?" The first episode shows the husband going from house to house, listening to wives' problems, popping Viagra in the bathroom because he needs "help" because of the stress of having multiple wives and the pressure to fulfill all of their needs. If I recall correctly, he almost had a heart attack from taking the medicine too often. If anyone tuned into that show thinking it would be all about sex, they were certainly disappointed.

legalize everything besides murder, rape, assault, vandalism and theft, and watch everybody lighten up a little.

Bill O'Reilly? Nice to see you here!

Silly analogy. When science discovers some DNA that sets a genetic preference for multiple wives, get back to us.

The bigger issue for me is I never belonged to a group with a flag or a hot Facebook icon. I can live w/o the FB icon, but I want a flag, dammit.

As this thread continues I feel I have to remind you all this is a local forum. If you turn it into the good old right vs left ideological fight, heads will roll, so to speak.
And don't say I didn't warn you.
Yac.

No, Rick Santorum is against gay marriage last time I checked - I only used the polygamy example because I know many people who are large advocates of gay marriage but hypocritically are very against polygamist marriages that's all & would raise hell if the county showed its support.

I have no problem with whatever consenting adults want.

Sorry you chose this specific, supremely loaded comparison, but likening homosexuality to either polygamy or bestiality is the very ground Rick Santorum walks on, infamously and ineluctably. There's no way to say "What's next, polygamy?" without the cognoscenti thinking "Friend of Rick."

Bestiality makes no sense as it involves a non-consenting party; polygamy though is comparable because all parties are consenting to the union
I don't see the latter comparison as a negative connotation & don't see why there should be legal limitations to any unions.

I still however dislike the idea of a taxpayer funded building being used to take sides on a pending divisive court case.

Again, they're not my comparisons. They're Rick Santorum's.
