The Waterfront spans Homestead, West Homestead, and Munhall. The three municipalities cooperated with the developers to draw up a uniform taxing district for the development, so they split the taxes somehow. I believe that the developer also received some form of tax increment financing and I'm not sure how long that was for or if the boroughs are yet receiving the full taxes. Shows how small some of our fragmented municipalities are when one development crosses through three of them.

Munhall is the third one, not Whitaker. It does span all three. Man that's weird, I had to look up Whitaker because I hadn't heard of it before. Didn't know there was a Whitaker boro....

I moved back not long ago and am surprised how much my brother and parents love the mills. I keep telling them how much I hate it, and won't go there. They just don't get it. I traveled to Cheswick and see there is a lot of stores closing down because of it. This was suppose to help these areas. I knew it would do the exact opposite. It supports the bland sprawl, and doesn't help anything with the core river towns in this area. The Cheswick theater is about to close down now. It is a nice old theater that is much more classic then a big urban sprawl mega theater. I came back and worked for a firm that designs crap like this. I am putting my pride where it belongs and turning in my two weeks notice. I won't be a part of this crap. I am excepting a job with a firm that does real urban design.
Word. And two years later it still proves.

Hey Stagger Lee, You should ask these people: "How many of you walked from the Walmart at the Mills to the actual mall? How many of you walked to the mills? How many of you didn't need a car to go there?

I used to live in Arnold and Lower Burrell, and frequented the Wal-Mart constantly. I'd occasionally venture over to the Mills, but to be honest I did all of my shopping at Ross Park Mall or South Hills Village.

The Mills is a decent mall, but that's as far as I'll go with that.

Cheswick was on it's way out long before the mills even came into existence. In your defense however, yeah it's sad to see so many big box stores popping up everywhere, but there's nothing that can be done about it. Seriously, can you think of a scenerio where Pittsburghers are gonna do anything aside from b*tch and complain about it? No. Because b*tching and complaining is what Pittsburghers do best. Nobody actually acts on what they preach around here.

I agree. There can't be to many people that hate Pittsburgh Mills, because it's packed all the time.

What'z not to like about the Waterfront?

I'm one of the biggest supporters of living in the city and supporting the walkable neighborhoods and their businesses. But there's a lot to enjoy at the Waterfront. There's plenty of walkability in Lowe's Theatre area. We usually park near PF Changs and have dinner there or somewhere close and walk to Barnes and Noble, Starbucks, and a lot of the other shops.

That doesn't mean they don't hate it. Yinzers love to contradict themselves by patronizing the very things that they'll sit on a bar stool all night and complain about. Wal-Mart is a perfect example of this. Try and coax the next Yinzer you encounter into a discussion about Wal-Mart. They'll never shut up. "Day don't ire union workers n'nat." "Day put da widdle guy ahtta business n'nat." "Day lie abaht da sales der havin' ta getcha ta buy udder things that'r marked up." -Blah, blah, blah.

It's all chains. I went to a movie at the AMC the other night, and we were trying to think of a good place down there to go have dinner first. There aren't any. We ended up at the Green Mango in Regent Square. PF Chang's is okay, but not good, and I don't understand why people will wait for an hour to eat there.
