Is it safe? My boyfriend and I will be relocating to the area within the next week. We found a nice place in West End, but know nothing of the area. We drove past another rental in another area of West End, and it had bullet holes in the windows plus some interesting neighbors. So now we aren't sure about it... We may check out some places in Millvale too, how do they compare safety wise?

Thanks in advance

Could you be more specific about where in the West End you were planning on renting? I don't see the West End as a bad neighborhood, but maybe you would be too close to another neighbhorhood that isn't so good.

Also, where would you be commuting to and do you have a particular price range for rentals?

West End is actually a town, are you referring to that? It's not a very nice place.

Yeah it is in the neighborhood of West End, I think anyway. It is somewhat close to Hershel Park if that helps any.

Let me put it this way. I go to school at Duquesne University and every month they give free cholesterol/BP/bone mass/BMI screenings to "under-privileged" communities in Pittsburgh. I did it for five weeks.

We currently go to five places in all of the many, many, suburbs of Pittsburgh, and West End is one of them...

lot's of welfare, lots of ghetto, lots of poverty, lots of trashy people.

I'm not actually familiar with the ENTIRE town, of course, that might not be true in every square inch.

West End is a neighborhood in Pittsburgh that lies in small valley south of the Ohio River. It is within the city limits and the West End Bridge seperates it from the North Side.

thank you very much for the info

i'm not sure what to do... It's been really hard to find a place, and the house itself is really nice. We have a small dog and three cats, plus we need a place with laundry hookups, so finding affordable housing hasn't been an easy task. I hate to give up on this place, but then again I don't want to have my car stolen or get mugged or something, heh.

Any other input is extremely welcome!

Have you actually been to the house and seen the neighborhood? I would go stroll around the area and take in the experience. Maybe you'll get a good vibe, or at least, not a terrible one. :P

I have been to the house, but we didn't walk around the neighborhood. I did walk around on the google street view map though
