I know they can exist ANYWHERE, however, since moving down from Erie, one of the major crimes I've seen more of down this way are crimes against children. Most haven't been in the city limits, but a few.

Pittsburgh (57) murders in 2007----Allegheny County total of (90) homicides.....

If you think Pittsburgh has crime, take a look at cities OUR SIZE all around the country and you'll see how safe PGH actually is comparatively speaking....

How about our neighbor to the north... Cleveland...Population only 80k higher than Pgh...in 2007 -- over 130 homicides..Cuyahoga county numbers are close to 180...

If you ask me all your numbers are off. Someone gets shot or killed everyday here in Pittsburgh. You notice they been using knives lately?

I posted those numbers on Jan 05 2008, the same exact day the Chief of Police handed these numbers to the press as well as city police officers...City of Pittsburgh (57) they actually later re-calculated Allegheny Co. to be (93)...

Alittle research on your part will see these numbers to be 100% accurate...They do have alittle company out there to help with inquiries like this... GOOGLE...

The FBI statistical report for 2007, issued June 9, reports Pittsburgh with 52 murders. I noticed they erred to the low side in a few other cities also.

2008 Murders as of June 12:

Pittsburgh - 21
Allegheny County - 36
Metro Area - 39

The differences between numbers, 57 vs. 52, is likely due to the fact that a homicide total includes murders as well as justifiable homicides and 'deadly force by officer.' Thus, there may have been 52 'unjustified' murders, plus 5 justifiable homicides and police homicides. In short, murders are homicides, but not all homicides are legally ruled as murders.

want to reduce urban homicides? legalize drugs. drug prohibition has led to an enormous increasein in homicides primarily in cities. this also happened under alcohol prohibition.
