How many homicides have been recorded in the City proper in 2007, as of 10-31-2007?

That's not correct, I'm trying to find the right number but it was 56 as of July 1.

I've used Google and every other search engine and can't find it. May have to call the police department to find out for sure. I know it has to be close to if not surpassing 70 by now.

A scary statistic, no doubt. But I just moved here, and I'll take it over the 700+ in Los Angeles every year!

Homicide rate in Pittsburgh has been on a slight rise recently (like much of the nation) but is still far lower than most large cities.

Yikes! 70 homicides already this year in the city? Pittsburgh is starting to sound like Youngstown...

Okay, I just crunched the numbers for 2006.
Youngstown's population: 79,271.
Homicides in 2006: 32
Homicides/population: 2,477

Pittsburgh's population: 324,732
Homicides in 2006: 56
Homicides/population: 5,799

So I guess Pittsburgh is still much safer than its neighbor to the northwest...
