I bought the electronic box about a year ago as my wife and I have been traveling to the DC-Philly-Baltimore area frequently. The other day I went from the Hampton Exit to the Cranberry exit. Just wondering, I pulled over to go through the gates, had I stayed on the left they would never have known I was there.

Is there a glitch in the system?

LOL On the left it reads your tag at 80 mph or so, though they ask you to go only 55. Remember that AT&T commercial about 25 years ago that among other things says "Have you ever paid a toll...without slowing down?" Yeah, it's that, although I don't think they had anything to do with it.

There's another such high speed lane at the Ohio border coming inbound (no toll going to Ohio anymore, indeed no toll between Ohio line and Warrendale plaza you're talking about). I think there's one out to the east somewhere too but not sure where.

Dunno where else they have high speed lanes for E-ZPass. Florida has a road with high speed lanes but the passes are not compatible. I know there are others, just not sure of the details.

OK, what if I had taken a ticket in Hampton and got off in Cranberry without paying?

the garden state parkway has toll booths with a really low toll every now and then, and they now have several ezpass lanes that you can just drive right through like that. not a loophole. drive through one without an ezpass and you're in trouble!

No different than if you went through the slow E-ZPass lane after taking a ticket coming in. In all cases there are photos taken. If there's a discrepancy, say, you take a ticket then go through the E-Z lane with transponder, or without transponder, then they match up with the license plate. If there's an E-Z account tied to the license plate, they bill that. If that can't be determined, then you get a bill plus violation in the mail, based on the plate.

If I recall correctly the PA toll booths do not have gates so it doesn't take the high speed lane to run through without paying. You can do it in any E-ZPass lane. The violation fee is at least $25 on top of the toll.

I'm sure they get violators. I don't know what happens ultimately when they don't pay the notices that come and so forth.
