Along these lines, it's been interesting to watch this forum change over the years. I first started reading it back in 2006. Back then, there were lots and lots of "Pittsburgh Sucks!" type posts. Someone reading the forum could easily get the impression that everyone in the city was dying to get out.

Over the years, that really turned around. It isn't the city that changed, it was the posters. A few strong posters showed up who were interested in discussing current events rather than just griping about how much life sucks, and voila the forum took a turn for the better.

Coincidently, I popped into a Rhode Island thread the other day. I was completely ignored by people who were whining.

I think most of the posters here respect each other, except for SCR, that friggin jagoff.

A lot of good info to be found here.

haha. That's been my experience in the Rhode Island forum as well.

This is an interesting thread to mention about other forums and people's experiences on them actually. On the contrary, I've gone to the Chicago forum a few times, and completely overwhelmed by the receptive nature and how large threads can get there. It has some of the same elements of Pittsburgh in that regard. However, I'm not particularly interested so much in Chicago to keep viewing the forum, outside of an occassional curiousity (like with anywhere else).

Austin is another one that a posting can quickly turn into multiple pages.

Rhode Island, on the other hand, you can quite a few posts that just don't get any responses.

I've always said the Pittsburgh forum is on of the very few on CD that's a real community engagement. A lot of others are either just glorified "Soap Boxes" or stand-ins for the local Visitors Bureaus.

It's so true. If you just put your foot off of the curb, you'd be dead. I took my then-teenager and some teen friends to NYC for a week. For the first couple of days, I kept having to grab a few of the friends to keep them from stepping out into traffic like they were little children. it was pretty scary for me because they were my responsibility. They got the hang of it eventually.

I know! I somehow smacked my head on the interior of the cab because the driving was WILD. I burst out crying---that's how bad it hurt. The idiot driver was sooooooooooo nasty to me. It got out at Battery Park, and the sidewalk vendors approached me very concerned. They were all super nice to me. They sat me down, gave me ice, trash talked the cabbies, and called an ambulance. It turned out I had a concussion.

Oh yeah--Austin Forum is a great one to read! Pittsburgh and Austin have a lot in common, IMO. And now that I think about it so do the two forums. Both are cool towns.
