I would. HCurtis knows a lot about old house restoration!

Of course, the new owners could put up vinyl siding or some other covering, but that would take away from the historical authenticity that the citizens council is looking to preserve.
Umm, it's called tear off the insulbrick and restore the original clapboard underneath. Under no circumstance would I install vinyl siding or anything over the top of it. The way to preserve the home would be to restore the clapboard.

Maybe he'd let us take his Rolls-Royce to Cruze?

The neighborhood group probably wants someone with a significant amount of capital to invest in the restoration, rather than someone who is going to live in it and restore it gradually over the years. Just a guess. I'm not the type to take out huge loans, or engage in expensive renovations. I usually like the old houses the way they are. lol

My guess is the number one thing they want (judging from the post) is to ensure what's in the house(s) is not destroyed by a flipper. Even if you said you would take years to fix it up, that would be preferable to a likely gut job. You won't know unless you ask.

That said, I don't begrudge you not taking on such a daunting task. It would be a lot for me to try to do even before having kids. Now the prospect of doing anything more with another house than getting the floors refinished and painting just seems beyond the pale.

I met someone at an antique show once who was familiar with my blog. He said, "Oh! You're the instigator!" At first I didn't know what he meant, but then I decided I liked the idea of being the preservation bad ass.

I am definitely looking for my next historic project house, preferably in the North Side or West End, but the one you linked to in Deutschtown would be too big and expensive for me to take on alone. I have my eye on a few tiny houses, like the ones on High Street in Spring Garden, which I think I could actually afford to restore on a Social Worker's budget. I'm still not entirely sure whether my next project will be in Pittsburgh or York. I'm going to let opportunity dictate whether I stay or go.
