I am thinking of getting a new Motorcycle. How safe is it to park motorcycles on road in Pittsburgh? Every day, over night? How often are motorcycles stolen? What are the options I have since I don't have a garage?

Sorry for being vague, any pointer is appreciated since I am new in US.

Where in Pittsburgh are you? Do you have a yard or shed that you could park in instead of on the street?

I know someone who keeps his motorcycle in his family room.

If you live on a first floor, that's a possibility. Just make sure you protect the flooring.

Thanks for the replies. Specifically, I want to know about Squirrel Hill. I don't have a yard or shed where I am living, and I can't park it in room either. Do you guys mean to say, parking on the street is a strict no-no?

I see motorcycles parked overnight (or late enough that I figure they must be there overnight), but not very often. But I rarely see motorcycles moving in the area. I think you'd be O.K. given that cars don't get broken into.

My neighbor in the southside has 2 motorcycles he keeps parked on the street without any issues (and has done so as long as I've lived there).

True. It took me 10 years to get the golf clubs out of here. My battle is hunting and fishing gear in my living room. I really don't think I need rifles in the living room when there are perfectly nice gun safes in the attic. I get the "I'll be using them again next weekend" response. Right now I'm looking at two fly rods standing up in the hallway corner near the front door along with a tackle box on the radiator. I'm staring to think I should redecorate and embrace lodge style décor.

No. My friend who parks it in his living room is just obsessed with his motorcycle. He has a few acres in Westmoreland County and has a garage too. You asked for ideas, and I thought of his motorcycle in his family room. One of my neighbors keeps his motorcycles parked outside most nights even though he has a garage. He has never had a problem. We're in the suburbs, not sure if that makes a difference.
