The title says it all. I'm looking for something that's two to three hours away.

A decent place will be pretty and have tent camp sites that aren't like parking lots.

This is last minute. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

Let me guess: PA state parks don't allow alcohol? Actually I'm not entirely guessing, I think it says that in the regulations, although I'm not 100% certain because it's not written up in a very friendly way. But why would we be surprised about that in this prohibitionist state?

Anyway, try WV state parks maybe? This is the closest one: Tomlinson Run State Park They have regs too but it seems to only apply to certain parks and areas. I don't know anything about that park though so I'm not really telling you anything you don't know I guess.

I think the real issue may be is there a site available anywhere on such a weekend at the last minute.

Also supposed to rain sometime tomorrow/tomorrow night/maybe Sunday morning.

People get wasted in PA state parks regardless what the signs say.

Even on your campsite? I'd have to check but I thought if your staying there, you can drink as much as you like. I must check - I want to go camping next weekend and sobriety is not an option

Stayed on a nice campsite up near Butler last month. And drank happily - it was private though

According to the PA state park regulations:

Quote:
Possessing, selling or consuming an alcoholic beverage except at specially
designated facilities operated or leased by the Department.
See bottom of page 10 http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/cs/group...t/d_001192.pdf

State parks don't have that many employees so the chance of getting caught is pretty slim unless you're having an underage all night long keg party. The area where I camped at Ohiopyle got very quiet after dark since many of the people there were getting up early to go kayaking.

I never saw a KOA that didn't look like a parking lot though.

The one in Moraine doesn't. I would say of the 20 or so across the country we have stayed at the smaller ones typically don't. But Moraine is the only one in PA i have stayed at.

If the pictures I'm finding online are accurate, that looks like a nice KOA. I've never seen a nice one. They always look like parking lots to me with no privacy between campsites. It's good to know that some KOA's are nice. I'd be afraid to chance staying at other KOA's without knowing for sure.
