If this place isn't for you, then it just isn't for you. Find a place that is.
I was refering to those who continue the cycle of white flight, who have a general attitude that the cities are bad "just because", who would think that living in any kinda community is just too much for them, and who are causing multitudes of problems for everyone... including themselves.
If you would like me to go into detail, then I can, but prepare for a rather lengthy discussion.
This is an issue that is on my mind particularly because I am in the MPA program at Pitt for Urban and Regional Development... so I deal with these problems on a daily basis. And I never cease to be amazed with people's aversion to city living, which often times can be well summed up with their aversion to mankind in general, or their aversion to a certain subsection of mankind.
I've skewed off... the point is that I personally have a strong disliek to the mindset of the poster, who displays all the traditional markings of a person who bases their view off of sterotypes alone instead of really looking at the true picture... and that is ignorance at its very core.
According to the poster, I should have been mugged right now on my way from Starbucks back to my apt... but amazingly, I have not. Nor have I been mugges on any of the many walks I have taken from my place to Pitt campus every single day... a total of 3 miles per day. The posters comments don't mesh with reality... they mesh with a concept of the central city that is frankly racists and anti-progressive to the core and its wrong.

Some people just like country. Some people like to be able to see things other than buildings. But thats just me, and this is from a planner as well

One very good reason not to move to Pittsburgh.
THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THE SNOW.
I cannot believe a city (actually the entire area) could do any worse job taking precautions for the weather and taking care of the roads in less than good weather. Today, we got less than an inch of snow, and the roads are sooo bad. It stopped snowing 4 hours ago and the roads are still not plowed or salted. Areas that get soo much more snow than this are able to take care of their roads, so don't say that this happens everywhere. On top of that they never clean out the storm drains, so now a few of the roads going up and down mt w have overflowing ice. nice, thanks pittsburgh.
It is ridiculous.

I cut up and over Mt.W, and noticed all the ice, too. Looks like also there are watersheds going down to the creeks and the river, and they overflow onto the road easily.
My favorite thing about snow in the city is that they don't seem to salt or plow on weekends. It hasn't really been an issue this winter, but there have been times in the past where I've been kind of stranded because it snowed several inches on Saturday, and the roads stayed bad until Monday morning.

Move to Erie. There they only plow every other day, and that's on the important streets.

I don't doubt that the suburbs have their attractions, but if people love the country so much, why do they move to developments like "Meadow Brook" and "Beaver Creek" which plowed over the things that they are names for?

I wasn't talking about suburbs. suburbs and country have nothing in common.

I agree with you there. And certainly I have no beef with people living in the country.

The most recent budget crunch having lasted all of the five years I lived there. There were many times when I had to drive all my friends everywhere because I had the only car with All-Wheel Drive.
