Oh please, spare me. You're moving to Seattle soon. Why don't YOU stay and slog it out in the 'burgh?

to much negativity on here. To much, I say!
I know many people that had no problem finding a job here. I know many people that whined all the time about how they couldn't find a job and never looked. |

Pittsburgh needs more people like you. However, I wouldn't fault you for wanting to be someplace you can make more money, don't forget to compare the cost of living between Houston and Pittsburgh, Houston is getting very expensive and in a big hurry. I mean, even me as a soon-to-be doctor of Pharmacy could go elsewhere and have a better job. The reason? Western Pennsylvania is home to several great Pharmacy schools, including two of the best in the country, Duquesne and Pitt. Not to mention Pennsylvania as a whole adds another half dozen or so more. Pennsylvania, and especially Pittsburgh, is saturated. And although I would have no problem finding work, I would still make a lot more money in places where there is higher demand. There are some states that have NO pharmacy schools, and most states have less than a couple. I HAVE done my research, though, and despite me moving to Seattle for X amount of time, I would STILL be better off making 15k less and staying in Pittsburgh. And to fragglewaggle, the sole reason I am moving away from Pittsburgh is simply that I am young and would like to be elsewhere for a while. I don't believe any person should live in the same place their entire life. I plan on buying a lot at River Parc once they build it, which should give me at least about 5 years away from home. |

I thought Houston was actually cheaper the Pittsburgh. I don't see how you can't get a good job being a mechanical engineer here. Engineering jobs pay about the same here as they do in other parts of the country. I moved back and made 7k more then I was getting paid in Denver. Also I am living in a cheaper area.

Glad to hear it! Are you retiring to the Pittsburgh area? If not, do you have a job lined up? |

I really don't buy the whole women make less argument. I just dont. We have women architects in my office that i assume make more then men there. They do more that is for sure. People are paid on the job they do for a company, not if they are a man or women.
