I def like what I see in Mt Lebanon...I still have yet to visit but its repuatation has been solid ever since I could remember, I am a native pgher who is finally moving back after 15 years of exploring the states...I feel there is no better place than PGH, if we could of stayed back then, we would of but now things are really picking up in the Engnieering field and we figure, if something happens, we rather have it happen here than anywhere else in the states...I could of lived in bout 10 other states in the country, but we choose PGH...

I have heard that Lincoln was not as nice as Markhom and that the closer you get the business district the more problems? Can anyone verify this? All nice areas have nicer areas and if i am going to invest somewhere and retire..I want the best possible area i can afford in teh best most sought area....no one can fault me for that!!!

I wish I could help... but I know nothing about Mt Lebo.. have you decided that's where you're going?

When can you get back to give a look see? The other thing you can try is to go to the police department -- they might have a community liaison person there who can really give you the lowdown on the area you're most interested in.

We did that when we bought our house out here 20 years ago -- and it helped us avoid an even bigger mess.... we sort of took the mess we thought we could handle. (In our case it hasn't changed -- my willingness to put up with it has!)

Thanks Tallysmom...no we have only just began our search but we had narrowed it down to a few communities but till the company pays to put us up and let us home shop, we can only now speculate where to go, i also want to take my time, we are no real rush here, we have alot of options open and we need to also finalize some things here as well...

I know Mt Leb is safe but I want the best areas of the safe area...so i have my homework to do here, and some others also have mentioned USC and Bethel Park and I am thinking of other areas north of the city too, like Cranberry that are in the North Allegeheny school district too, I like the fact that mt leb has small schools and is more middle class...older homes imo have alot of charm and things you can not get in a new home unless you pay dearly for it...its all trade off here, just have to see what is best..the company is a good one, they pay for everything, give bonses and all the perks...as they should my husband does make six figures now, so that they should do! THanks for asking btw!

Thats the bottom line. People have given you great information, but anything can happen to anyone at any time. Look at what happened to that Amish Community last year. Who would have ever thought ten Amish girls lined up against a wall and shot to death.

anyhoo>>i been hearing that the lincoln subdivison or neighborhood here or whatever you call it has the most rentals and therefore the most problems and that markham is a parents dream come true>>>>>>>>>>it is amazing what i am finding out< but i am still wanting to verify the info< that is if i am allowed here to continue posting and asking questions bout mt lebanon< seems if someone does not like it< they can always choose not to post and keep their unkind comments to themselves or is that a bit too much to ask on this forum?

Lincoln elementary is a great school. However, it's biggets flaw is being right on one of the major routes people use from the South Hills to get into town in the morning. Although the crossing guards do an incredible job, it still is what it is. "Old Virginia Manor" is a great place to live, although I would choose to be further from the school/Beverly Rd.

Markham is every parents dream (at least most of Markham). All the kids walk treeline streets with sidewalks, and there are no cut through streets (almost the opposite of Old Virginia Manor). Markham Elementary seems much bigger and more open, but maybe that is just because there are a lot of trees surrounding the playground and fields. (not as city-like).

I'm sure both schools are the same when it comes to quality of education. As for crime, there is petty crime around Lincoln as it is near a lot of apartments/stores. There is zero crime in the Markham area. Just look at the police blotter.
