Here is a link to the tour Pennsylvania coming next year.

Venture Outdoors

Allegheny Trail Alliance - Maps and text describing a trail system that will connect Pittsburgh PA with Washington DC

lots of info in this one. You can request maps in this following link:

Pittsburgh bike trails : North Shore Trail, Station Square Trail, South Side Trail, Baldwin Borough Trail, Eliza Furnace aka Jail Trail - a 23 mile bicycle trip report. KC, BN, PJ, EQ

Pittsburgh Bike Shops & Bicycle Rentals - Bikes, Repairs, Rentals in the Greater Pittsburgh Area

The trails are starting to get completed in Pittsburgh. Soon you can ride along the rivers for miles. That was a nice thing in Denver. They had a big bike trail system. I use to bike to work on a trail just meant for bikers. Pittsburgh will have a good system soon also.

Thumbs up Exactly What You're Looking For

To build your own bike:

For bike maps and other resources:
Bike Pittsburgh » Get the brand new Pittsburgh bike map!

Are you new to biking here? I've been doing it for about three months now, and let me tell you: a) you'll get in great shape and b) you'll become an expert in Pittsburgh topography.

It can be a bit dangerous though, so make sure you use a helmet, lights at night, and common sense. Many bikers don't, which is sad. My buddy got hit by a car the other day, if he didn't have a helmet on, he'd be dead for sure, instead of just a gash on his forehead.

Anyway, cheers.

I always went out to the laural highlands. I just moved into Pittsburgh not long ago, and I am getting a new bike in the spring to bike around the city. I had a 800 dollar Canondale stolen from me in Denver.

Yes, me! PM me anything you want to know. If you mountain bike, let me know, we'll ride Frick Park some time.

excellent, thanks for the leads. this is the map that piques my interest: http://www.friendsoftheriverfront.org/new_pages/trail_map.pdf (broken link)

is there an open space movement around pittsburgh like there is in portland? if you look at a map of portland you'll see miles-long strips of "open space" as well as many small stretches strung throughout the landscape -- under power lines, along old railroads, in the nooks between residential plots on hillsides, wherever. there are so many hillsides around pittsburgh, are they "open space" or are they privately owned / no-trespassing affairs?
