Any Black Tie or Themed events? My google search brought up the following events.

Here’s what I found in Washington DC.

NEW YEAR'S EVE GLOBAL GALA 2008: An International Celebration of Many Nations
SIX COUNTRIES - NINE THEMED ROOMS - NINE UNIQUE CELEBRATIONS

Experience the entire world without ever leaving Washington. Tonight we ring in the New Year and celebrate 2008 in four American and five other International styles! Mingle, feast and dance your way from city to city and continent to continent -- nine separate rooms (including several huge ballrooms).

From the hottest clubs in North America to the adrenaline pumping excitement of Las Vegas and the Kentucky Derby; From a Jamaican celebration, to the wild Latin scene of our South; From to the modern karaoke bars of Tokyo, to the streets of the Champs Elysee, to the revelry of historic Irish bars, and to the forbidden fruits of 1920s Chicago (Prohibition era); Tonight, you can bounce from ballroom to ballroom and truly celebrate the World!

Each room will have its own distinct menu - chosen to represent the respective city theme.

(1) NEW YORK CITY/WASHINGTON D.C.

From the Center of Times Square to the majestic streets of the Nation’s Capitol, tonight we combine the excitement of New Year’s Eve in Manhattan with our Nation's Capitol. The enthusiasm of the center of 42nd Street, along with the spirit of Pennsylvania Ave. comes alive in our Grand North American Ballroom

(2) 1920s CHICAGO (featuring the Tom Cunningham Orchestra)

Nearly a century ago, Prohibition hit the cities of the United States hard. But the fun, debauchery and excitement was kept alive in Chicago! Tonight we take you back in time, where guilty pleasures became the norm. Join us for an all night classic party with the Swingin'est band around!

Featuring the live sounds of the well known Swing Stars - THE TOM CUNNINGHAM ORCHESTRA!

(3) LAS VEGAS

Sin City comes to Washington…Hit the Strip and try your luck with mock gambling at blackjack, craps, roulette and Texas Hold-em. While gambling, overlook the main ballroom and the incredibly huge midnight ballroom drop. Of course, a visit to Vegas would not be complete without a Vegas style hotel buffet.

4) KENTUCKY DERBY

It happens once a year – except this year of course! Tonight, we re-create the Kentucky Derby with a fast-paced, fun-filled game that is much more exciting

(5) CUBA - 1950s HAVANA

Not Fidel Castro's Cuba, but the wild times of 1950's Havana where Americans vacationed, relaxed and danced! Enjoy salsa and meringue all night as we bring you a taste of the hottest Latin music.

(6) IRELAND

Forget the royals of England, France, Austria and Vienna. Join the commoners for an unrivaled evening of fun and entertainment at our authentic Dublin Irish Pub. Enjoy a live authentic Irish band featuring some of your favorite Irish tunes. Regenerate the St. Patrick's Day Spirit of Ireland's leading leprechauns! And don't forget to grab a glass of green beer for that added Irish touch!

(7) JAMAICA

Want to take a break from the busy streets of a Metropolis? How about a visit to the beach and a live Jamaican band! The Spirit of the Caribbean comes alive as you enter this tropical paradise with a New Year's style island celebration!
Here you will experience one of Washington's most celebrated live Reggae/Island/Calypso bands – Oasis. Do the limbo, dance the Conga line, raise your hands, and dance like crazy all night long!

(8) JAPAN

MAKE YOUR OWN ENTERTAINMENT
Tonight we take the mystique and mystery out of Japan and make you the star. Take center stage and participate in this treasured Asian interactive experience. That’s right...it’s karaoke time. Choose your song and perform…live in front of everyone.

(9) FRANCE

When you are ready for a nice quite break, then absorb the spirit of Paris France, as we invite you to relax in a comfortable setting. When you want to relax and celebrate Old European charm, visit the epicenter of elegance with members of leading symphony orchestras and enjoy the classical music compositions of Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss, Schubert and more!

- Washington’s Best DJs
- The Tom Cunningham Orchestra (Live Swing Band)
- A Live Salsa Band
- A Live Irish Band
- A Live Jamaican Reggae and Calypso Band
- Karaoke
- Live Classical Music
- Magic and Comedy
- Two Huge Balloon Drops

All for 155.00 per person.

First night is an at least 6 hour long event, the fireworks are just a small part of it. You can do plenty at First Night without going for the fireworks (and most years they have them twice - at the start for the kids and at midnight.)

Also, if you do the Clipper thing, you will probably be subjected to the fireworks.

Who cares what is going on in DC? If you think what is in other cities sounds better - go to one of those cities. Do you routinely do black tie events? Then you will probably be invited to one or find one within your social circle. That kind of stuff doesn't just fall out of the sky.

Default Also Been Searching For A Nice Event In Pgh For Nye

Hi SmokeCityTDI,

I feel your pain! My friends and I (mostly couples) have also been searching for something fun and nice to do on NYE in Pittsburgh. That's how I came across your posting. I don't think you'll find many black tie events these days (even in New York) b/c that kind of thing is passe, but it would be nice to have some kind of "upscale" black-tie optional event in PGH. We've had ZERO luck finding anything so far. The only event we can find is that First Night crap. I'm sure its great for people with families, but there really are no upscale events for young people between the ages of 25-45 w/o children. When it comes to things like this, Pittburgh isn't very hip. An all-inclusive upscale event where you pay a single fee for drinks, food and music would be nice. Heaven used to do it, but Heaven is gone. Its sad b/c this city has some pretty venues--such as the Warhol which would be perfect for a NYE upscale all-inclusive event. I've talked to about 10 other people around this age group (in addition to my friends) who are also searching for something to do. You have to go to DC or New York if you want to bring in the New Year without having to stand outside in tennis shoes and jeans or in some nasty bar in the strip. This will be my first NYE in Pittburgh in 6 years! We (my husband & I) spent the other years when we were dating in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, DC and Toronto. This year we decided to stay home since NYE is in the middle of the week we'd rather spend it with our friends. So far, the only plans we have are dinner at the Grand Concourse, but we have no idea what to do afterwards. I heard Dish (on the South Side) is having a party, but I think it may include dinner. Dish is one of my favorite restaurants. Its not a black tie event, but more "upscale casual" you might want to check that out. I did the Gateway Clipper event years ago... its nothing special & not very "upscale"....Definitely not like a black tie event. Its like being @ one of the boardwalk clubs, except you're on a boat. Your best bet is the Tribeca Rooftop party in Manhattan (in Tribeca--of course). That was my favorite NYE party--much better than the one we went to in DC. The tickets sell out fast though. Its all-inclusive and the food was amazing, the view was beautiful. BTW...I know some people who went to the World Party in DC...they said it was kind of lame b/c the guests were much older...senior citizen range.

Default Ps--check Out Joonbug

I forgot to mention www.joonbug.com lists all the best NYE events in other cities. Most of them are all-inclusive. You can buy tickets directly from the site too. Miami is also a fantasticplace to bring in the New Year. They always have really nice parties. Check out the one at Sky Bar for this year. You can read about it on Joonbug.

Can you please give me the specifications on how to respond to a message without it being considered advertising. Changing my profile name and responding as DianaRua would have been okay? I really just dont understand. I dont receive any money for people who attend the events. Why would it be considered advertising or is it that my screen name is pitt2night and that is the name of the site. Not trying to be a jerk at all just want to send someone to a great NYE party that I happen to be hosting, no good? Thanks!

New Years eve and St. Patricks day are the two days when the annoying suburbinite kids come down to get drunk and annoying in the city. I am just going to stay at home with a 6 pack like old man awesomo knocking on my ceiling with a broomstick everytime I hear my neighbors up stairs making noise.

If the events here are lame, why not host your own awesome event?

City Data is stupid like that. I'll probably get reprimanded for saying that, but oh well.

You know that Pittsburgh is struggling with their new years eve activities when the Fabulous Thunderbirds are the headliner.
