Pittsburgh Pirates Playoff Tickets Sky High - Rum Bunter - A Pittsburgh Pirates Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and More

I'd also note that these games in St. Louis, home of "The Best Fans in Baseball," are not sold out.

I grew up in Cincinnati, which I think is a baseball town. People love the Reds. They're proud that the Reds opener kicks off the entire baseball season. The parades are huge. When I moved here, it was a culture shock that people lived and died by the football team, but didn't really care about the baseball team. Pittsburgh may be jumping on the Pirates bandwagon now, but it's still a football town. There really aren't Pirates fans akin to Cubs or Red Sox fans. The baseball culture just isn't there.

Well part of that is because the Bengals have been bad for so long . . .

Seriously, not sold out? That's crazy. Maybe they priced the early round game too high? I was surprised how low the early round game tix were here. You could get in for 20 bucks. That'll go up to $50 with the NLCS though.

The ticket price thing: Boston and Pittsburgh is easy, because they are the two smallest ballparks! That's why the tickets are the highest. You know, supply and demand. Once it's playoffs even here there is more than enough demand to go around.

Pittsburgh has always been a better baseball town than people give it credit for. I remember the playoffs in the early 1990s. Even though there were over 50,000 in the stands every game, there were empty seats in the upper deck. CBS camera crews focused on this fact and it gave Pittsburgh a black eye. Anybody that has ever sat in the outfield upper deck seats at Three Rivers Stadium, unless they were in the front yellow seats, know that you had better have binoculars. Three Rivers was a dump. I know. I worked security there for several years. We are seeing what happens what a great ball park and competitive baseball team can do for a city. I've long contended that, despite whom your favorite team might be, be it the Penguins, the Steelers, or the Pirates, it is a successful baseball team that is the biggest boon to a city because they by far bring in the most dates per year and help the bottom line of business owners on a more consistent basis.

Pittsburgh is a "we'll throw money at whatever team is winning" town.

how are the rams doing? the bengals? all towns are like that, winning is more fun than losing and 21 years of losing is great to destroy a fanbase. sure being real fans is important to kids but aside from that, adult sports watching is mainly about having fun.

What's wrong with endorsing a high-quality product and rejecting a low-quality product?
