Hi everyone,

I am coming to Pittsburgh for the first time in Novemeber. My girlfriend and I will be staying at the William Penn Omni Hotel. We will be arriving early Friday and going to a Pens game that night. (huge Penguins fan since the early 90's) Is there any nice resturants or bars to get a couple drinks after the game somewhere between the Consol and the hotel within walking distances? We are both 27. I am looking for something nice where can relax have a few drinks and maybe some appetizers.

Also Saturday we plan on exploring the city. Would you reccomend going to the Carnegie Musuem of Natural History or Senator John Heinz history center if you only had time for one?

Thanks

Seviche is right around the corner from the hotel. That's my recommendation, but there are a number of other cool places downtown that I'll leave for other posters to recommend.

If you're staying at the Omni, there is a actually a decent pub (name escapes me) in the lobby near the Grant Street entrance. They have a separate food menu from the main lobby/restaurant I believe as well.

There's also speakeasy in the basement of the omni.

Yeah, the hotel itself has at least 2-3 places to get drinks (I think the one Impala26 is thinking of is the Taproom?)... The section of downtown east of Grant (which is where you'll be heading en route to the game) is relatively bare... I literally can't think of another "nice" place to drink between the William Penn and the stadium, but I'm sure I'm missing something. I guess there's the place on the bottom floor of the USX Tower, and presumably some stuff right around Consol?

The Natural History Museum is pretty standard fare -- I love it because it's changed very little in my lifetime (and probably my father's lifetime), so a trip through there is a huge rush of nostalgia... But if you've been to another Natural History Museum, you won't see much to write home about here.

The Heinz Center, on the other hand, is very modern and, in my Pittsburgh-loving opinion, really great. And certainly something you won't see elsewhere. And within walking distance. Seems like a clear winner to me!

Thanks.

The seviche and the speakeasy both look nice. Maybe we can try one friday night and the other one saturday night. Thanks everyone. Keep them coming if anyone has any other suggestions.

Most of the bars, lounges and restaurants are concentrated in the Market Square and Cultural District areas, not on Grant Street, which is mostly corporate. It's a bit of a walk, but it's very active in those two areas and you'll have a ton of places to choose from.

Yeah, I've really come to love Market Square since I've been working downtown for the last year. Newly resurgent and active pretty much all day and night, even on Sundays (which is crazy for post-1980 downtown Pittsburgh).

Meat and Potatoes is the coolest bar downtown IMHO. Excellent food, drinks, atmosphere. Seviche is excellent too. NOLA in Market Sq. Any of those will be excellent. Your are not limited by choice, as other posters have also suggested. Have fun.
