I am really starting to get tired of you trying to use logic and "real math"...don't you know in this bizarro world of CD these days, we use only blanket statements and outdated information.

Yeah, goodness knows I'm #1 defender of the city, but I'm an even bigger defender of not skewing statistics.

In 2012, there were 42 homicides within the City of Pittsburgh and 54 in outlying areas of Allegheny County.

Estimated 2012 population of Allegheny County: 1,229,866. Estimated 2012 population of Pittsburgh: 306,211. That leaves 923,655 in the "suburbs."

42 / 306,211 = One homicide per 7,291 residents.
54 / 923,655 = One homicide per 17,105 residents.

Neither is very high, compared to Detroit, New Orleans, Philly, or even Cleveland or Buffalo. But to say anything about how dangerous the 'burbs are in comparison to the city, based purely on raw numbers, is ridiculous.

I would also like to give a quick shout-out to the Northside, which has seen a total of 3 homicides so far this year, all after mid-September. For an area of the city with approximately 15% of the population (i.e., ~46,000), that makes the murder rate about one homicide per 15,300 residents -- nearly akin to the 'burbs.

I'm not saying that the entire Northside is a Fox Chapel-esque picnic, but I will say that the hype re: crime there is overblown.

Its were all the old white folks live. There is a lot of old money in those place. Mt. Lebanon median age is 42, USC is 44, Sewickley Borough is 42, Sewickely heights is 49, Sewickley Hills is 48. They will be suffering over the next 10 to 15 years unless they can find younger residents to buy those houses.

I'm sure that they will be able to find people to sell or leave their homes to when they finally decide to leave the area or pass into their decedencies. And for many of them, it won't be for many, many years. Even 49 doesn't mean one has one foot in the grave.

There has always been a market for fine homes

Exactly! My goodness, someone 49 will be working for most of the next 20 years!

Why would they need to find someone to buy their house in 10 years when they are on average 45 years old now? My grandmother owned her home and lived alone until she was 90 years old. So they probably have another 30 years before they need to worry about anything. And then they don't really need to worry about anything.

And as for it being where all the old white folks live, you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. I have 3 friends and their families, all under the age of 32 who recently bought in Mt. Lebo...but according to your logic, 32 is middle-aged, and not far from the near dead age of 45...

The stats still say it is an aging suburb
