i can not recall hearing ONE negative remark, ever, about Oakmont. i dont believe the commute into the city, if needed, is that bad, too.

Oakmont is charming. It's very convenient to Uparc too.

They are building a new bridge which may cause some chaos for a while. Oakmonts only downside is the traffic bottleneck...particularly at rush hour. It seems to have worsened in the last year. Otherwise it is a great area.

I think I've mentioned this before, but if not, here you go, your first negative remark about Oakmont: the nastiest girl in my class through eight years of grammar school lives there. I haven't seen her since then, but there is no reason to believe she stopped spreading her poison as an adult.

And here's another: the Oakmont Bakery's cupcakes suck. h_ says it's because they're made from box cake mix.

It shouldn't be a big deal since she doesn't have far to go after she gets across the bridge. Her commute from Oakmont to U-Parc is 2 miles. She could walk that. If she bikes, it's even better because it's basically a flat commute.

How did you learn she ended up in Oakmont so any years after growing up in Jersey?

I learned in the '70s that she moved to Pgh when she got married because she worked with a very dear friend of mine from Pitt (the one who held my surprise 21st birthday party). So one day last year -- I think SCR was looking at a particular house near the river in that area -- I thought to google her. She has a very unusual maiden name, so it was easy to find her address, etc.

But the bridge IS the bottleneck...doesn't matter the drive is only a few miles. It is extremely slow to get to the light at the bridge. Biking would be quicker but I really don't see Freeport road as very biking friendly. The morning commute and getting out of Oakmont never seemed quite as bad as the pM one but when I am there I am usually leaving after 8 am. After 3 pm it gets crazy. Despite all that I think Oakmont would be a great choice.
