For a guy who loves Country Music and is on the cusp of a singing career, does moving to Pittsburgh offer any possibilities?

In short: no. Why not Nashville?

Are we talking real country music here, or some Garth Brooks horse***t?

I'd have to agree with "no".

Unless you're Donnie Iris, you have no hope of a musical career here.
No one outside of Pittsburgh even knows who he is.

Who is Donnie Iris?

Pittsburgh isn't a country music city. There are people who like it, I'm told, but there aren't many local venues for it.

I found these country music bars. It seems the Pepsi Cola Roadhouse is the only on with live entertainment. It's in a surrounding county. It's probably doing great business due to all of the out of state people moving to Washington county for the gas drilling boom.

Country music is popular enough around here - that being said, no, this isn't a good place to kick off any music career.

Nashville, an obvious choice, is doubtful because of family issues.

Is Pittsburgh somehow insulated from the growing popularity of Country music elsewhere in the nation? In radio airplay, Country is by far the most popular music format in the US, with as many stations as alternative and classic rock, pop/top 40, R&B, and hip-hop combined! What gives?

I think everybody is aware of it, but it's easy to avoid country music if you don't seek it out.

I don't think the country stations have live performances.

It's actually pretty popular in the region as a whole (especially among the younger demographics), just when it's not certain people's (ahem posters on here) cup of tea they act as if it's nonexistent here & that their indie-electro-garage-house scene is actually where it's at. Any mention of wdve will get the same reaction.

Again, that being said, I wouldn't use pittsburgh as a kicking off point for any career in the music industry unless you have connections in the business in some way.
